Last I checked Ferrari is not a non-profit. I always thought the point of business was to make money.

 

Not true, some manufacturers decide to emphasize other things, ever heard of Colin Chapman? Now if you think Rimac and Tesla are going the wrong direction, that might be right. I just know if history is to be guide, faster / fastest seems to be an important benchmark in "Sports Cars." That's another reason I have a hard time wrapping my head on folks arguing Ferrari should no longer consider performance as an important factor as it relates to competitors.

Maybe just me.

I just see some camps here that say Ferrari has gone too soft, or are no longer 'pure' enough, while others are saying they are not 'hard core' enough. Which is it?

Now, I'm certainly not saying all Ferrari should do 0-60 in 1.1 seconds like the latest Tesla roaster has accomplished in testing, I mean there are many types of Ferrari for many types of enthusiasts. I simply would hope their flagship is at least 'competitive' with other marques.

You're right; my neighbor (one of the original engineers of the Model S) may be lying to me. Why? I don't know, he never lied to me before.

Also, I know in today's AI, DeepFake world = Rimac's 1.74 (documented below) - either is fake, OR we've reached PEAK 0-60 times. 1.74 is the best anybody will ever get. (Forever, ever ever)

They may have lied when they said they used street tries on an unprepared street road.

I have zero interest in driving it. I'm embarrassed for Ferrari for building a 2.5 ton high centre of gravity vehicle for absolutely no reason other than "its the current fashion".

 

Enzo is gone the people in charge are Business Men and Woman they don't have the passion for cars like those before them. So now its Business. That said The product they have produced for that new market segment is amazing. To also give them credit where its due more money has been put forward for GT and Enduro racing and more road model development.

This weekend just past has seen the fruits of this with Ferrari first ever WIN at the Nurburgring 24 hours with the new 296 GT3.

I watched many many hours live of the N24, it was a great performance ( although the BoP added after qually clearly hit Porsches hard). But the money now being put towards endurance racing has come from the excess left over from the previous F1 budget which is not cost capped.

 

There is more money being spent than what would have been left over from the F1 budget. Most of Ferrari F1 budget came from Sponsorship) The caps and then further limits and cost cutting etc has been going on for ages now (mean less Sponsorship $$$ required). Sponsorship have also been affected by those changes over the years (Tobacco and Alcohol sponsorship made up a massive part of the $$$ teams needed. Even mission window is gone now) then there is the crazy lockdowns etc which affected the market from the Covid Fiasco and we are still feeling the affects today. This hit Sponsorship hard.

 

Ferrai's F1 budget pre-cost cap was around $500m a year. Now its around $200m... It may not be exactly like for like, but they are certainly not putting $300m into endurance racing a year.

 

You have missed the point completely.
It does not matter what they had before the cost cap. That's the past and that money is long gone.
The sponsor doesn't give their F1 team money and say hey you can use some on other things outside F1...
Right now they have sponsorship to meet the current F1 budget. They also have some sponsorship for the other racing, But at this early point that is partly self funded. Development cost to return to this type of racing and produce the prototypes come from them. Over the next few years most will then be covered by sponsorship.

 

Why are you saying the price for sponsoring the Ferrari F1 program changed? If anything it has gone up as the sport over the last few years has had even more exposure. Most of the F1 teams on the grid are now for the first time running in profit, how can they do that if they have lowered their sponsoring fees?

Ferrari even said they were going to use the spare budget they can no longer spend in F1 for their Lemans Hyper-car.

 

Are there any confirmed customer deliveries yet? If so, what's the hold up?

 

What surplus the F1 team doesn’t even have a title sponsor? Probably the reason they just hired a Chief Revenue Officer for Motorsports. Seems GS budget is dependent on performance incentives and other distributions.

Regardless, Ferrari returning to the top class at Le Mans is worth thousands of SUVs.

As an Accounting/ Finance guy here is what I see in the 2022 year end statements / reports. Revenue from “Sponsorship, Commercial and Brand” ~$478.5M. If done correctly the order of the words should be aligned with size of dollars. “Commercial Revenue Primarily from F1racing activities”. They go on to explain this would call prize money by many. No further breakdown that I found. Net 11% up ( prize money up, sponsorship down)

F1 cost cap was “approximately $146M”.

 

Then you don’t know Ferrari history. You do realize the road car division exists exactly to cater to the “current fashion?” Why do you think Enzo often destested his own customers? The road car division is here to fund F1. Has been for over 50 years.
