thisbis how all QP IIIs should have looked like. I mean the cognaq ("brown") leather is not bad, but a Crema (Ferrari) or Avorio (Maserati) interior lifgts up the inderior and the complete appearance of the car!! Post some more nice pictures of it in this thread. I'd love to own a QP like that.

It's the same overall design from the same manufacturer (don't recall, but I could look it up), but beefier and reinforced. The QP3 is a much heavier car than the XJ. It was quite ahead of it's time as I recall, and a very clever design.

Hi everyone! A brief update on my German Market 1985 QPIII, we rebuilt the Webers with factory kits and the car fired right up and ran great! She is running and sounding great. Going to check a few more things on it then will try and drive it this week. VERY pleased to hear it running so nicely!!

Hi Everyone! Big step update! My wonderful mechanic Elliot got the Quattoporte running and driving. He drove it around this past weekend. I am VERY happy. He said it runs well but the rear brakes have started to seize up, so back to the lift and we will redo the rear brakes and change the fluid. Big part of shaking down a car that sat for many, many years. Got a couple of electrical gremlins to chase as well, such as the front right light/turn signal remains on while key is on and/or car is driving.

Have a 1981QP3 and was going to replace the ATF. The manual just says to replace it with Dextron ATF. However, that manual is over 40 years old and now they’re all sorts of different Dextron variants. Does anyone have any recommendations and any thoughts on using a synthetic ATF?

I am seeking assistance with an issue I am facing with my Maserati QP3. The panel on the back deck of my vehicle has unexpectedly buckled upward and become detached from the metal framework beneath it.

The panel is quite stiff, which leads me to believe that relying solely on glue may not provide a lasting solution to reattach it securely.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how I can soften the panel and make it flatter before I attempt to reapply glue and reattach it to the metal framework. Thanks!

    Hello Folks,

I just acquired a nice 84 Quattroporte. I am new to this brand but have a couple of older Ferraris and an Espada.

    Here is the car.

    https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1984-maserati-quattroporte-toronto-on-128554/sold.

Can anyone advise what is the proper oil filter, as I have to change all the fluids? In addition, what is the best source for parts. I have used Eurospares occasionally for my other cars but have been relying on GT car Part in Pheonix for years. It appears they do not cater to this brand.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Marc

That looks like a really nice car!

MIE (https://maseratinet.com/ ) should have all the filters.

I've used Baldwin B281 on my Bora ever since I bought the car in 1987. A very similar engine but the MIE sourced one looks a lot taller. I'd bet this one fits just fine. Baldwin are high quality filters.

My understanding is the oil filter used on the Bora, Ghibli, Indy, etc will not fit the QPIII. It needs to be a thinner filter.

If one researched the Baldwin website I'd think you could find one that fit. There's nothing magical about "OEM" oil filters for cars of this vintage. They have one for that messianic canister filter on my Espada as well.

I agree Baldwin filters are great. It is what I use on the Daytona and Fiat Dino. It is what I plan to use once I run out of UFI filters for the Ghibli and Khamsin.

Appears to be in good condition, the wood is faded wich is typical for american cars. The toolbox is not from a quattroporte iii. If you want to acces the heater you will probably have to take the dashboard out. You can acces the fan but that is about it. It's hard to get your hands up there and if it needs to be replaced the dash needs to come out for sure. The price is good tough if you compare to European cars

Royales are rare and manual ones even rarer, so I was intrigued to see this one:

    https://www.artcurial.com/fr/lot-1989-maserati-quattroporte-iii-royale-no-reserve-4392-11

No affiliation. It looks beautiful to me but it might need lots of work; however, you will probably wait a very long time to find another one! I would be tempted myself but I promised my wife to stop buying cars.

Incidentally, I was sure that the Royale came with silver goblets but this one seems to lack them.

I'd much rather have this than that AM Lagonda also on offer and I love the looks of those. The QPIII is a car that is far simpler and a lot of people can work on it. Better parts access too. Metallic green valve covers and air cleaner?

Saw that one to! Wish i had the cash to bid on it. A manual Royale is like 1 of 10 or 20. Does need some TLC and new hoses, they look horrible in blue. Crazy to think that you could buy a qp3 in 1989, must have been a really aged car by then. Imagine that you could also buy a bmw e32 750i wich would have been far cheaper and really 90's design. The qp3 is a real 70's - 80's product witch straight lines and alot of chrome. The sales numbers in 1985 when my car was sold was already really low.

These cars are really gonna go up in value and especially the Royale. You have 645 Lagonda's wich are 80-120k each and almost 50 Royale's wich sell for 25-50k on average. In 5 years time these cars and every Quattroporte iii will rise alot. They are rare in comparison with other 80's luxury cars and are hand built. Have an amazing engine wich Maserati sport cars like the bora, khamsin, indy and the ghibli also have. For example there are 38.000 Rolls Royce silver shadow's made and they are often more expensive than a Quattroporte iii. Crazy to think that they made like 3000 ferrari 365/400/412's and these cars are 3x the price of the maserati. watch my words, the market will descover the qp3 and then prices will skyrocket. It will start when the Youtubers finally make video's about it and you will see it on carshows. I have never seen one in an European Carshow, crazy to think about it. I hope to save up enough to buy another manual this year and just hold on for it for 5 or more years.

I wouldn't take your investment advice on QPIIIs but this IS a nice example. Most QPIIIs here in the USA sold off quite cheaply and then were parted out and scrapped. That wasn't because they were such a high quality car.
The suspension is well know to be grossly under engineered. The 4.9L IS a low stressed V8 that makes OK HP & torque for it's time. The emissions systems on these cars here in the USA are an absolute disaster. Plenty have caught on fire. You can't register one in California so that immediately hurts it's collector status here. The window for being able to operate all cars like this one here in USA is closing fast. That SUCKS :(
