As it stands Monaco has only a two year contract with Liberty, unlike regular tracks that have longer contracts. The sticking point is ticket revenue because Monaco has only about a quarter the capacity of grandstands of a regular race. So expanding the track could alleviate some of that. At the same time however there is probably only so much appetite for a gigantic project when the very future of the race is in doubt.

Dump this event until the track can actually support a race. Good to see Horner say this-

Horner: Monaco F1 track must be adapted for "long-term viability"
The Monaco Grand Prix circuit layout must be adapted for the venue’s “long-term viability” since overtakes are currently “virtually impossible”, says Red Bull Formula 1 team boss Christian Horner.

I guess Monaco should've had the track layout in mind when they started works on their land reclamation project. Taking a left out of the round about after Mirabeu wouldn't make much sense either, since Avenue Princess Grace isn't as wide as that video makes it out to be. It's quite a narrow street on both sides of the street. It would make the lap distance longer, but it wouldn't really add anything to the race or solve any of the current issues.

I can't see what value driving here and back would give to the race. I don't know if an F1 car would even fit on the road.

Perhaps F1 is the problem, not Monaco? I don’t see why a historic track should have to change to suit a formula that dictates increasingly bloated race cars.

When deciding a new formula, the technical rules should be written taking into account all the different circuits where the cars will run, and also the different weather conditions.
At the moment, cars are too big and too heavy to race at narrow short street circuits, or in the rain.
The same issues keep coming back year after year, and nothing is done about them.
I bet the 2026 formula (which may involve some technical changes beyond the engines) will still ignore them.

Excepting Turkey 2020. A fabulous race in the rain.

But, in general, you are correct.

FIA can either mandate wheelbase maximum, car length maximum, or maximum angle of front wheel steering--knowing that the Fairmont Hairpin (Lowes be damned) is.

that is exactly what has been done at Poiter - on the last turn before the tunnel... its a huge development over the sea. Prince Albert has been on a land Reclamation binge = and a very healthy one in terms of $$$$.... more land in Monaco - and sea front land to boot.

I fully agree. Losing Monaco - would mean losing the history of F-1. You may as well then just run an indy car formula - FIA makes all the chassis - and teams bolt in an engine package...

F1 has lost history all over this continent in Europe. No one missed Monaco during COVID. It wasnt an issue. The place is great the racing is not. Period. Give Monaco a contract that says you make a new circuit, then we will evaluate / approve it. Its a joke as a race. This year being utter proof. No rain, total boredom and thats not new at all. The 'race' that isnt. It needs to be more than qualy at some point.

We are just going to disagree on this. I'm in the camp that says Monaco is the fundamental heart of F-1. Monaco, Ferrari, Monza, Spa, Silverstone- those are the jewels in the F1 crown. stopping Monaco as a GP would be like not racing at Indy - and still calling it Indy car racing...

Its F1 - Not 'Monaco F1 championship'. No one missed it during Covid lol. No one. It was not an issue. F1 moves on. Monaco has historics. They will survive. F1 is a show and show's go on and on with or without it. Its not a good race but a nice location. Nothing else.

I personally was very disappointed. F1 did not feel like F1 without Monaco on the calendar.

I know. Which btw surprised me all the more when they actually had Formula E race in Zurich. That made little sense, but I digress.

I once drove the Bremgarten track, or what's left of it. Really cool lap, like a mini Spa.

COVID only nixed one Monaco GP (2020) and I, for one, was really pissed.
With all due respect, many of the folks who criticize it haven't been, and having attended 30 times I still find it a blast. You need to see spectacle live to fully appreciate it.

I never said its Monaco F1 championship... There were a lot of races during covid that were missed and F1 was ok... that means nothing. F-1 Racing with out its history - is really just NASCAR in open wheels. a pretty shabby and sad event. but as you say they will go on by appealing to fans such as yourself, and I guess that is ok as well. I'll just re watch former great F1 races at Monaco.

I've been, and its ok for in-person viewing. I have to say I think it was better in the late 80's and early 90's . Monaco its self has changed so much as well, today its really about Social Media, and parties vs. racing. I guess I'm just getting old. BUT there have been some great racing at Monaco in the past and there can still be.
