I agree, he's a nice guy and deserves some fandom, but he wasn't a hack that all of a sudden got lucky. He has numerous California championships, had already played 2 PGA Tour events before PGA Championship just this year, and quite the player several under 60 rounds. So maybe slightly over the hill now, but in his prime he could have done the PGA or Korn Ferry grind for $200k a year, but he probably figured out he could stay at home charging $150 an hour giving lessons.
Colonial was good for a quick trip. Last group was already on 8 when I got there. I walked the entire back 9 and saw the leaders. Yes went super viral on the world of golf Twitter… the usga put some safety equipment in his locker for the us open this week as a joke…
Nice to see the pettiness in PGA coverage. They made it a point to say Phil and Jordan 'from the LIV Tour' didn't make the cut, but said nothing about the notable PGA guys that also missed the cut... Rose, Scott, Day, Thomas at +14?
Yea they just sound bitter and silly at this point… the war is over and Yasir was the winner… hopefully he makes a few ‘changes’ to the old talking head announcers that can’t get with the program. Regardless of PGA/LIV…. I’m rooting for Ricky tomorrow for sure…. Outside of him, definitely anyone but Rory.
My three bets are toast. I thought Cam Smith was in a great position yday, and expected him to post another 3 under. No dice. Also had Hovland and Morikawa
I wonder if the LIV players are being paid (LIV money) to golf/golf with the PGA now? I'm sure they had solid contracts that paid them X until a certain date...???
They can say what they want, but the 3rd major of the year is proving that the LIV players are placing above their rating on average. It could be the lighter schedule or just the extra motivation as these their only PGA events. Going into last round... Dustin Johnson T6 Bryson DeChambeau T9 Cam Smith T9 Koepka and Garcia have played OK. Reed was playing good except for yesterday.
I've actually met Rory, back in early 2014... had a nice chat with him and his then fiancée, Caroline Wozniacki... she was actually incredibly nice, hell of a catch... he should have stayed with her. But I've always been a Phil fan (been around him several times) - Phil is great..... known for leaving all valet / service guys $100 tips all over the place as opposed to Tiger (back in his prime), that never tipped anybody. With Rory - I just hated the way that he handled the LIV stuff.... he put out such a personal hatred for Phil that I thought was way over the line (like the f-you Phil line in that Full Swing doc on Netflix).... it's like dude, you're a golfer, defending the PGA Tour is not your job.... maybe he just got manipulated and used by Jay Monahan and others in all of that to be their mouthpiece..... so now at this point given the new merger situation, Rory wishes he just kept his mouth shut for the last year or so. Of course I still respect the hell out of how he hits the golf ball.... he is not a big guy, so the power he gets out of his driver is about a perfect of a swing you can have.... he just clearly gets way too much in his own head
I'm happy Clark won, but I sure got tired of hearing over and over and over he lost his mom to cancer.... That's not Clark's fault, the media has no idea what to do...
Totally agree. Funny how Tiger spoke up against LIV, then retreated.... kinda disappeared about it. Perhaps people pointed out he missed a bunch of PGA Tour events and went on high-paying junkets to play in the Middleast instead..... I know he's played in SA, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE... and he wasn't there for the US Troops....
Phil seems like a good and classy guy … That’s cool. I remember reading that article about TW wanting to be a Navy SEAL - spent the day shooting with them at a training camp and wouldn’t offer to buy the 6 ( however many ) of them dinner. Talk about lame. MDS
I heard that story also. Trained with seals all day, didn’t pick up check at the bar after That was 2008. I also heard that it was training with them when he injured his knee…. Before that US Open at Torrey Pines where he limped in pain for the last couple rounds Tiger’s career, as amazing as it was, will always still be “what could have been” if he didn’t have all the off-course injuries and wife drama. Knee injury was his fault. Blowing up Elin marriage with all the whores was his fault. Car accident was his fault. Crazy…. He would have beat Jack’s major’s record for sure. The only other thing that derailed his winning was that complete swing change in 2001 or so. Where he totally sucked for 2002-2003 or so before he figured it out and started dominating again. Another poor choice by him… to dump Butch Harmon for that turd Hank Haney. Cost him 2 years of his prime. Shoulda just stuck with Butch all the way through and he’d have 25 majors.
