    Today I took the car for a warm up and during the trip I had a check engine light. I thought it was related to my test pipes. When I plug the OBD II scanner I got 6 codes!

    I think the following three codes are related to my exhaust system;
    P0422 - Main Catalyst Efficiency
    P1124 - Long term fuel trim additive air
    P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System

    But these three are the ones I’m worried about;
    P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
    P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

    Does anyone have a similar problem? I want to know all your experiences before I start to troubleshooting the system has the codes manual establish.
    Thanks!

    David,

    What was the solution to your problem ?

    I own a 2001 360 F1 spider with a milage of approx 18000 miles. Have experienced a check engine light for a while, but no direct effect on the car (before now). I was at the nearest Ferrari work shop (which is 7hrs drive each way:( for approx 1000 miles ago. Ask them for checking the light but they couldent find any error, but they mentioned misfire but it could also be related to the sport exhaust. They reset the light but the light come on again on my long journey home.

    But lately I first noticed that the car was running a little bit rough before it get worse, no I noticed a different in sound and especially during low revs and car is running rough. I checked the light today twice and got more or less identical result as yourselves:

    P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
    P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

    In addidtion I got a code P0152 P ( 02 sensor circuit high volt (bank 2 Sensor 1)

    Behind each code the following number was shown ( 01/04 02/04 03/04 04/04) , but I guess those are just the error number ?

    I first went to a loca workshop (not a Ferrari dealer) , he could not read any codes with his scanner, but he could verify that the data was looking ok, but he couldent read any data on lambo sensor etc. I connect my inexpensive scanner whiich I purchase for some time ago, after reccommendation from this exellent forum, and manage to get some error codes

    Anyone now if the car is safe to drive for 7 hrs to reach the work shop with this symptoms ?

    Appreciate any answer, my car is my "dearest" toy but also sometimes my biggest concern, mainly due to the long distance to a dealer and also "some" additional cost.

    Best Regards from Jostein from Norway

    Hi Jostien,
    Misfires are very tricky codes. It can be caused by multiple problems, vacuum leak, sparks, spark coils, exhaust leaks, wiring and most important fuel pressure and injectors.

    I did a lot of troubleshooting starting by a vacuum leak test; I move the coil wires to other positions to see if the code jumps to other cylinder, check exhaust system. What I really found was a big leak at the antievaporation system lines and the fuel lines and the float valve seals at the tank. I think that all these leaks were causing a fuel pressure problem so I changed all the lines. So far so good it runs like new without any lights. Let see if that was the reason but you can start from there.

    Good luck!

    David,

    Thanks for answer, maybe a silly question but anyway (I am not a mechanic:) : How many sparks coils have an Ferrari, is there one pr cylinder ? Reason for asking are :

    Option to buy 8 spark plug and one or "two" spark coil, maybe this can save me for 14 hrs driving with the car in this condidion.... I also noticed that you had an evaporation alarm which I do not have...

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards from Jostein

    Jostein,

    You have 8 coils, one per spark. Remember that misfires are related to low fuel pressure. The antievaporation system collects parts of the fuel vapors. You might check all the rubber hoses to see if any are oily.

    Ok guys,
    After replacing all my leaking hoses on the fuel vapor system and antievaporation system I though I solved my misfire problem since I though that it was relating to a low fuel pressure. I found a large leak at the right fuel tank (no fuel leak, vapor leak).
    After a run the light pop again! I was very worried since I did some leak test. Anyway I said lets deal with that later. I was on my way to take the intake manifold and the runways out to get it modified and guess what I found? One of the gaskets of the runways was all damage and was suctioning dirt and air from there. The gasket was at the cylinder #4 which I had my code p0304 misfire. Lucky of me, I solve two problems at once!
    Take a look at my findings;

    I had a battery that was dying, but I wasn't sure at the time if it was an alternator problem. After charging it, I drove it on a short errand. When I came out from the store, it started a little rough, and seemed to be running rough and on 4 cylinders. I limped it home, and got the multiple misfire code. After I confirmed the battery was weak and replaced it, that solved the problem.

    It was taken quite a while before I manage to sort this out, mainly due to long delivery time from the workshop in Norway since the coils was not in stock. When they finally arrived, the winter weather in Norway start and I wait until yesterday before i visit a local workshop. It was a coil which was issue (wet and "sparkover "). For the sake of good order, my scanner error code was failure on cyl P0306 (cyl 6) before error code cyl P0304, most likely there was not any thing wrong with coil no 4, but I changed it anyway and kept this one in spare. ignition sequence was xx-6-4xx, most likely no 4 was caused by the bad coil on 6. So far the car is running and sounding perfect again :)

    Best regards from Jostein

    My car had misfire codes on ALL cylinders when doing the PPI, and the tech said it happens when replacing battery and not waiting 10 seconds after the 'OK' light. He further said variable valve timing not set correctly is what throws the codes. So that's another possibility.

    But did your codes appear BEFORE your battery went dead??? If true, I'd like to know what's the explanation for that.

    The only fact is a bad/dead battery can cause those codes. Good day.
