We did not change the specifications plaque. I think Classiche wanted to leave a remnant of the original, but they did say they would provide a new Classiche book down the road to document the respec.
I was suggested by dealer to use a company called DSV Sea and Air as they had offices local to me and also in Italy.
I don’t mind sharing in case others are thinking about a similar route, but be warned - you could literally buy a whole Ferrari for what is essentially some paint and leather….lol. Due to rising shipping costs plus shipping insurance and import duties for work done in Italy, the shipping including both directions totaled to just over 80k USD. The actual job at the Classiche/factory to do the work all inclusive of taxes and such was just under 250k USD. So that puts me at ~ 330k USD, however, I then must paint correction, PPF, and ceramic coat the entire car inside and out which is a 25-30k job because I requested a custom laser plotted job instead of a basic off the shelf pattern for the PPF - which means little to no cutting of PPF material on the car during install. This puts the final cost at 355-360k USD! Was it painful? Damned sure it was! But, it was well worth it for me because the TDF is my favorite modern Fcar to date and to have it in my very own specification in my eyes makes it a masterpiece!
Wow! Isnt that going to cost about the value of the car though? I can understand if you want something very special and are going to keep it forever...
This surprised me. I would have thought that fixing the swirls, holograms, etc was part of having the car painted. A little shocking they handed it over to you in that state.
For the TDF, I think I would have paused at 400k-500k if that were the cost. Because for just over 500k, I probably would have chosen to purchase an entirely different car and spec it similarly. I don’t think most manufacturers at this moment are in the business of perfecting paint. Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, Porsche all have similar paint qualities at delivery. Perhaps a Rolls Royce Phantom from what I hear is the only car that comes from the factory with good paint polishing.
I was at an Aston Martin dealer today and after when I saw my car’s paint I was a little sad. Say what you will about AM but their paint and upholstery are still top notch.
"In total, this extremely meticulous process of paintwork alone takes 600-700 hours of craft, or the equivalent of one person working 24 hours a day constantly for nearly a month. The end result is a jewel of precision and beauty that is designed not just for years, but centuries." https://www.bugatti.com/media/news/2023/crafting-the-perfect-paintwork/
Bravo, FLU! An incredible spec and beautiful story. Thank you for sharing all the pics and detail. One of my favorite threads in a long time. We’ve owned 3 TM cars but I never dreamed of doing this with a more recent Ferrari. Well worth it imho for a tdf. Enjoy your beauty!!
