Its sort of racing as a demonstration. In the race but not racing against anyone. There is history to the "Garage 56" entry for this type of purpose. Watch the interview with JB. Its actually really pretty interesting when he describes how differently the Camaro makes it's lap time compared to the GTE cars. Not what I was expecting. It sounds like they got that car down to similar weight and aero figures as the cars in GTE.
It's purely for bragging rights. The starting position is not really important in a 24-hour race. A good set-up for racing pace is more important than shooting for pole.
Those Penske piggies still in the pits...hope we don't have the mother of all sandbagging surprises coming...
Seb is from Le Mans, lives in Tampa St Pete so when he is back in the Sarthe he is extra motivated...but the red flag is because his car is burning on the Mulsanne straight. He got out ok. Not a crash I gather but it just caught fire.
it looked like a burst oil line... whatever it was was flammable, and sticky...the whole underside was on fire. (memories of the DAMS caddy in 2000 catching on fire) sjd
