Anyone else notice it? Just had mine done and she sounds different. Like I can hear all the lifters..

Worried timing might be a bit off..

For a short time you can get more noise after a belt change because the car has been in pieces and many DIY guys especially take a long time to get this whole process down as part of a major. Sometimes many months go by and the hydraulic lifters simply bleed down. After some running if everything quiets down you should be fine. That said Helms from SRI claimed he was seeing many lifters go bad. He even had a lifter rebuilding service at one time. No one else seems to talk about our lifters. I have never had a problem but Helms is a real pro seeing lots of cars. I see cars in one's and two's as a diy guy so just don't have enough data points.

I’ve done a couple and never noticed that.

How is it preforming, starting, and idling?
Did they change the oil also (maybe different viscosity oil than you used in the past)?

Who did it European road and race?

Bring it back he will take you seriously, and let him know it just doesn’t seem right.

No connection between the two. Tensioners can rattle. If belt tension not correctly adjusted or a tensioner is bad it can rattle.

Points made about engine sitting a while during job is a good one but if really lifters it should go away in 20 minutes or so of running.

Good news it is easy to access. Pulling the probe from a stethescope and using just the hose it can be very easy to pinpoint.

Thanks everyone! She runs and drives and idles perfect. Just doesn’t sound the same. Thank you Brian with the thought about the tensioners.. that might be a cause. Also she did sit and mechanic said it could be air in lifters. I realized if there was a major issue with timing running would be potentially off.

Oh the more I think about it there did put a heavier oil in it that needs to flush out of the lifters.

    Ya’ll are awesome. Thank you!

When I do it I’m going to Napa and using my fingertips alone just “by feel”.
