    Hi,

I'm currently working on a Daytona LSD due to the usual groaning when turning.
In my 30 years of working on Ferrari its the first time i've actually got into stripping the LSD on a Daytona and its got me a bit stumped!
On the earlier 330 etc LSD they have 2 friction plates and 2 Diff plates per side and on the later 512/308 etc they have 2 friction plates, 2 Diff plates and a Belleville washer (heavy sprung concave spacer) per side.
This Daytona has 2 friction plates and 3 Diff plates per side? Can anyone tell me if this is the correct as i cant find any exploded diagrams or information on the Daytona LSD, every other model i can!?
The LSD is not working at all.

    Many thanks.

Welcome Carretta!, you have been very active since 2014! On April fools also...

Normally, 1 friction plate, 1 steel plate, and so on, staggered. I do not see how you have 4 steel plates and 2 friction.
It ought to be 3 friction plate, but then will it all fit? Ask a Daytona mechanic.
Go to Tech. Section, and ask there.

    Regards, Alberto

From the diagram it appears there is a steel plate, then a friction plate, then a pair of steel plates then a friction then another steel per side. Combinations of friction, steel plates and their assembled locations are how the diffs were tuned for the degree of lockup desired. Ferrari suggested a change of stacking order on the Testarossa differentials to give them more lock up but I thought it made them too tail happy so I didn't do it.

If noise is your concern check with Motion Products, they probably have the friction and possibly the steel plates. Replace the friction plates and any damaged steel plates and assemble. Then put in a bottle of Redline positraction additive with your favorite oil. .

I'm Not too mechanical, But Do own a Daytona. What is LSD? (other than a popular drug in the 70's).

Limited Slip Differential, often also referred as Posi(tive) Tract(ion) in other automotive circles/comments/discussions, and is expected to make chirping/clicking/“groaning(?)” like noises (during tight turns) when set effectively.
Some prefer either adjust/set it “loose” or use lubrication additives to make it less effective and noisy.

Different types had different levels of noise acceptability. The early ratcheting or chicklet type made a lot of noise and little could be done about it.
The clutch type can be quiet and still work fine. On the higher performance applications like Daytona and F40 there are no preload spring plates so are by design looser yet more effective and noisy, not less.
The Detroit Locker type are rather brutal and noisy and just have to be lived with.
