Just sold my 488 spider for a 458 speciale ! Just could not help myself :D
Have 458 italia and 488 gtb. 488 ia a speed machine and looks brilliant. 458 can be thrown around on the road more, and more safely so. Its sound and its more aggressive gearbox and steering make up for less speed. You can put an exhaust on it and then even more incredible sound. The 488 looks as good and its power is better. Cant pick a winner they both so good but different.
Hi, dont think anyone said power and speed is pointless, 570hp is still plenty fast on the road. 458 strike a good balance between classic look, good drama, and still being quick enough, and it is reliable, without the hassle like 430,360, and obviously 355. These previous gens are harder to maintain and become kind of slow in today standard. Thing is, 488 is replaceable by so many better cars from other brands, and each brand has its strength, i assume 488 can make the case if we can only own one car, but why not have the 458 for the road and a GT3/RS for track? Ferrari is not known to be reliable after frequently being tracked, but Porsche can go to track without any issue. Also on comments on EV overtaking 458 screaming, let me use an example in watch, Rolex and Casio and Apple watch all tells the same time, Casio and Apple is more accurate, but if you ask the casio and apple watch owner, they will most probably aspire to own a rolex, no?
The 488 is no slouch on a track - I guess it can be a match for a GT3 (it's not as efficient but it compensates with its power). And no, I did not pay the passenger for his positive comments Regarding two cars, the 488 is good enough for the road and occasional track days, and for something more classic limited to the road, a V12 550 (manual as standard) is my choice.
Great driving, hitting those apex’s and brake points and even the guys out on track missing apexes…obviously they don’t have track skills…stayed out of the way which is shocking. The 488 is a heck of a car…I love mine. I don’t understand the 488 hate on this forum.
I take 488 over 458 100% all day every day and in every way. It’s not the 488 hate that I can’t understand, it’s the 458 love that I don’t understand lol. I rank this way: 1. F8 2. Pista 3. 430 Scuderia 4. 488 5. 458 SA 6. F430 7. 360 Challenge Stradale 8. F355 9. 458 Italia 10. 360 Modena Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
It's people who still drink the "last mid engine NA V8 Ferrari" Kool-Aid. They need to matriculate to, at least, Snapple or Sunny Delight.
The market is always right, just look at the market price of 458 italia (almost the same as 488 GTB) and 458 spider (premium to 488 GTB), i dare say 458 speciale will trade at premium to 488 pista in a few years time. If your owner of 488, good for you, its either you dont care or your minority. I reckon not everyone buy Ferraris are savvy, rightfully so, you dont have to.
Agree with the Porsche comments however it is amusing to see pocket rockets leave the 458 in the dust.
Market price almost the same HOWEVER the 458 will have excess miles and poorer condition and is SLOW . You are dreaming about the Pista vs Speciale.
I guess the vote up top says what the general feeling is about the cars. In truth they're both great. People have different tastes, plain and simple.
Don't use such strong word, less a few years later your embarrassed, do you personally know anyone who own a pista? 2 out of 3 people that I know bought the pista new and said they want to sell it. Why the market price 458 with poorer condition, larger millage, and slower, at the same price as 488? You tell us.
I don't think the comparison is all that fair between those 2 models given the price point differentials and other things. I would compare the Speciale and the Pista. As I own a 458SA so I am biased in my decision. With the Speciale and the Pista the simple comparison is the normally aspirated V8 versus the turbo.
Quite the world we live in when 0-60 in 3.4 ( or what ever ) and 202 mph top speed is slow !! Good time to be alive !
I know several Pista owners and all 3 will keep their Pista for ever. However as I stated the speciale will never get to the price of a Pista. Or a Pista to devalue to the level of a Speciale. IF I had the opportunity to buy the Pista , wasnt allocated I would have . People sell their cars for what ever reason. One of the more common reasons is because they car , have the $$$$$ , are bored with it , want something new.
The BEST thing IMO with the Speciale is Ferrari got rid of that stupid whiskered front and that laughable rear with the centre triple pipe. IF the Italia looked like the Speciale I would have bought it. The Italia just did not satisfy me in the looks department.
202 mph is impressive , not all cars can do that. However 3.4 is slow. Any slightly worked 4 cylinder can do that. Obviously you arent as old as I am and never experienced rotaries in the 80's ?
In the US market, the Speciale is currently at the price of the Pista. About 575k buys either of the following: 1. ~1000 mile Pista with MSRP ~450k 2. ~2000 mile Speciale with MSRP ~350k Technically, the Speciale has already surpassed the Pista when comparing asking price over MSRP and asking price in $/mile. I shopped both cars for about two years before buying my Pista earlier this year. Would’ve been nice to have both.
