If you ordered head rests in this period, I guess this is what they looked like. I don't know exactly on which models but at leas on the QP as well. On tipo107.com there is a picture of a QP with similar head rests.

Headrest were even available on the 3500GT but they were usually only installed on the passenger side. It was considered a comfort feature more than for safety.

Most likely there was not only one original style. The silver spyder was a very late model 1968 while the red coupe was a 1965.

i am pleased there are several original options. Mine is 1964 coupe with straight stich insulator, however, complete restoration was done during ex my ownership. So, I didn’t know current one is original or not.

    Hello Marco...

1964 was typically a pretty early year for the Mistral.. Can you share your VIN number with us?
Currently, 1964 Mistral 109-102 is with me...

    Hi Ivan/Marco…

Just double-checked and 109-102 does NOT have any kind of under hood insulation, just some rough black paint. Now the question is should it?
If someone has an earlier car than 109-102, or a bit later than that, that could be helpful, but not
    necessarily guarantee anything.

I would guess that it probably left the factory with padding, and a previous owner could not find a replacement.

I need to replace the ignition wires on my Mistral, so I thought that I should take the opportunity to tidy it up a bit with an ignition wire loom while I'm at it. There are two options that I'm considering, so I'm looking for some input.

The MIE kit is cheaper and I can be sure about wire lengths matching, but I worry about how tedious it would be putting it together, especially getting that last wire through the tube. Has anyone here ever build one of these? MIE says that they sell lots of them....
    https://maseratinet.com/maserati/3500-gtgti/maserati-3500-mistral-sebring-complete-ignition-wire-set-with-tube-47374-wtube

This source sells it already put together for about $100 more, which could be worth it. But is anyone here familiar with this product? Are wire lengths good? I assume 3500/Sebring/Mistral set ups are pretty similar, but I'm continually surprised by things that should be the same not being the same in these cars.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice.

I think the wire lengths on a 3500GT would be different from a Mistral therefore I question the "one size fits all" pre-made solution. It all depends on which loom they used as a pattern.
These photos show a 3500GT and a Mistral. Notice that the distributor placement is different and that the wire tube on the 3500GT is on the bottom of the cam cover while on the Mistral it is on the top.
I would go with the MIE kit even though it is more work to assemble it.

Interesting points, Ivan, thank you. I also notice that the tubes are different. The 3500's tube is chrome and longer with 6 pairs of holes, while the Mistral's is black and shorter with 5 pairs of holes.
