458 Flickering Dome Map light

One of mine does that too. The dealer generously offered to replace the map light assembly for a mere $1500. I rarely drive it at night and it's not noticeable from the driver's seat so I declined. One of these days I'll pull it out and probably find there's one bad capacitor in the LED driver circuit I can probably replace for $1.

 

I can help here.
This is a well know issue of faulty LED bulb in it.
It can be fixed without replacing the whole assembly.
Just replace the LED lamp.

There was another thread, I think on here, it is a known issue (boo Ferrari), but I'm pretty sure it wasn't as easy as popping out an LED. They are soldered into an electrical board. I sourced my own replacement and had the dealer install. I don't think I ever saw repair instructions, but I have my old module in case anyone ever posts a DIY.

 

Thanks for the info. Not a big deal, blinking LED makes you feel like you are in a night club when you have the right music on.

Talking about music, Bose sound system is really poor. Scuderia Audio is just ridiculously expensive.

 

Was your issue actually the LED, or some other component?

 

There are two LED down firing ambient lights on the overhead cluster. One of them is completely shot, and one is blinking.

I do not know what is causing it or how to fix it. If anyone knows, I would greatly appreciate.

 

I went back to my email with the service advisor at Miller and she said: "We also noticed that your dome light is flickering. With those lights the whole assembly needs to be replaced as it is an intermittent short with the assembly."

 

Replace the leds. See my thread just above on dome light replacement. LEDS flicker when going bad.

 

Ambient two LEDs looks like they are part of the circuit boad. I just want to make sure that we are not talking about the main light bulb.

 

Your panel may be different. Mine had 3 separate bulbs accessed from the back of the panel removed from roof. 2012 458 spider.

 

This is my memory too when they gave me my old unit back, there was no bulb to pop out, they were attached to the circuit board which makes me think, at least for my unit, that what my service advisor said may have been correct, there was a short in the board.

Your yellow oval circles the bulb bayonet bases. I replaced these with new LED's with flat bases 194 I believe and there were no polarity issues. The middle light is the down light and the end or side lights are the individual spots, driver and passenger. If a spotlight button is activated and remains on at all times, it will illuminate in addition to the center down light when respective door opened.

 

Yes, sir, you are correct on 3 replaceable bulbs. Thank you for sharing their specs. However, blinking 2 LEDs lights in this discussion are soldered on the PCB board (in yellow circles) which cannot be replaced. Unfortunately, $700 entire cluster replacement.

 

I didn't even know they existed loI. I guess mine are burned out as I haven't noticed them at all but for 700 they can stay burned out, unless we can re-solder some on the board but don't know what type etc. if you can get a spec on the type etc, possibly some new replacements can be re soldered back on the board by DIY or electronic tech. JWAG

 

LEDs don’t flicker when they go bad. Dim sometimes. Usually element blows.

Flicker might be in the driver or connection.

This part is shared with the California, so there are used ones out there for cheaper.
