I got the engine installed yesterday. Slipped right in! Before I did that I installed the remote brake booster which is tucked up behind the driver's side fender cove by the firewall and both master cylinders installed too. Steering is connected and column installed too. Up next is exhaust, brake and fuel lines, measuring fire a driveshaft abs ordering a shifter. I have to get measurements for that with the seat installed. The dual throttle bottle EFI system is being designed as we speak. Should have it back sometime next month. Coming along! With weight on wheels, then loaded up to compensate for missing things, I measured the driveshaft length and will get that made. Bumpers should be here next week. Cheers Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! I appreciate the compliment! It’s getting exciting coming into the shop and working on what is almost a 507 versus just seeing a pile of metal which I started with. Such a fun experience! cheers Dave
Looks fantastic Dave. I can see you've been busy. When you have a moment do you think you could gind tge dimensions for tge side vents please. Did you get them 3d printed and chrome sprayed or did you fab them out of metal. Awesome work Thanks Steve
Even though I’m primed and sealed in White, I’m not 100% on the final color. I love Graphite/Red, but my White/Blue combo is another favorite. There’s also the 507 from the Pray collection which is a dark blue/gray and I like that too. Silver Blue is my favorite but my 63 Vette is that color so I can’t have two the same. I might just stay White since I’ll have a Red/White/Blue combo when the GTO gets done since that’ll be Rosso Corsa. Would be an easier deal to stay White/Blue too since it’s already white all over! We’ll see! Bumpers come this week and the exhaust goes in. Driveshaft was made and slipped in last week! Cheers Dave
Def the most interesting thread ! I remember page 1, thinking "WTH is this guy doing ?!" Now just incredible Well done sir !!!
Now that’s funny. Thanks for the compliment Bill! I think I’ve washed away doubt from many of my friends that thought this would originally end up on the curb for the recycle guy when I first started. cheers Dave
Apparently "the hard part" is not actually done yet! FWIW (not much...) my vote/s are graphite over dark red, dark blue over red, white over red or blue......this could go on and on..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
My original color combo selection was between the two colors Silver Blue and Graphite. You can’t beat Graphite with a Red interior Image Unavailable, Please Login
I showed my 20 yo son this thread…. He came home with this… Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
That's awesome! Yes, I bought an "open box" lot of 20 of those. Christmas ornaments for friends! I've got all the NoRev versions of the 507 too, and they just released a new Blue/Tan version too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I used 503 bumpers and modified the rear to fit. The front one may need a little trimming, but for now it'll be fine. They are thicker then the 507s but I don't think anyone will notice. Trunk bezel installed too. The rear one was too big in width and also on the edges where they wrap around the quarters. I did a bunch of cutting and splicing to get it to fit snug. Really happy with the results! More impetus to get the job done! https://www.mecum.com/lots/1081193/1959-bmw-507-roadster/?utm_campaign=CA23&utm_medium=email&_hsmi=266102511&_hsenc=p2ANqtz--yRBQD3v3qfogul7xcVztwSf_mMyo6H8iN9RgcsxlubVoRS8hDKNOIWmTgoVhXPmC5eYPF5tcKNGbH3fbjCTDLJpvrMg&utm_content=266102511&utm_source=hs_email Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah, I'll be watching that one! 3D printed grilles are installed for now until the real ones are done. Heater bezel is mocked up and I'll connect the cables to the water valve and air vents over the weekend. Exhaust tips on. More small details and it's really looking like a car now. I installed the convertible top mechanism too and will start on the A-Pillar trim shortly More to come! Been working on small details and getting ready to connect the battery today to test all the connections. Should be running next week! . Big things left to do are rear axle brake lines, parking brake assembly, and front to back fuel line. I installed the ignition switch with push button start attached to the steering column like the real one too. Front lower crossmember has the jacking point and steering stabilizer mount too. Small details nobody cares about, but I do! For now, I'm going with the stock 4bbl intake manifold since my EFI 2x2 set up will be another month or so, which is fine. I know the engine runs with the carburetor as- is, so if it doesn't start there's other problems to deal with. Engine detailing to mimic the 507: spark plug looms, generator mounted at the 12 o'clock position, and I'll be using a factory air cleaner from an E10 which will trim out the engine bay nicely. Incidentally, there is one 507 out there missing its 2x2 intake and with the round air cleaner installed, looks similar to mine More to come..... It looks better with a period correct air cleaner now! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
…and we have lights, and ignition. A junk brand new turn signal switch goofed all the lights up, so I yanked that out and will replace it next week. And on top of that, TWO bad headlight switches. Luckily, I had a generic extra on the shelf which worked great. Chinese garbage. Anyway, should be running next week! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
