this is polar opposites from social media influencers who are more about views and content that attracts clicks. the answer might be different for era of cars, specific models, or topic of discussion (market, mechanical, restoration, concours, etc).

looking for a list of names (user or not) who has that good brand ambassador qualification and for what. thanks!

I’ll tell you who aren’t good brand ambassadors: anyone who changes their exhaust to an aftermarket!

I would say people like Marcel Massini for vintage or Steve Fordham (@SAFE4NOW) classic and late model.

You’re my favorite Ferrari brand ambassador :)

Edit: Come to think of it, this is actually closer to the truth than you might think because I love this website lol and I don’t really know any brand ambassadors even though I said it originally as a joke

I think the closest to “Brand Ambassador “ will be concorso judges

Then Presidents and executive committee members within the Ferrari Club

    After that Dealership employees ….

I can list out some specific names if you want.

The above does not necessarily mean that they are an actual brand advocate, I just think that’s a good place to start.

the more I think about it the harder it is to find someone that has a comprehensive balanced view. there are those qualified certain eras, but not all. there are those that are heavy on the Ferrari/Dealer side or the Independent/Enthusiast side, but not both. I also think for the use of online auctions it is more important for someone to have knowledge on the service and originality/mods end vs. market value end. The market is the market, but potential buyers will want to understand the in and out's of the car, expert views will be value adding to the process.

To me a brand ambassador is someone who introduces or represents ferrari to people not already familiar with the brand. Concorso judges and executives aren’t the ones bringing in the teenager who has a burgeoning interest in cars or a first time customer.

I think someone like David Lee is a good example. He has a genuine enthusiasm for the brand and generous with his time and cars, and definitely draws the uninitiated in.

I think you are right about bringing in new people, but everyone's knowledge is somewhere from nothing to expert. There are many owners who know nothing about Ferrari. So I believe an Ambassador is positive about the brand and can help people become more experienced, no matter their age.

Paul Russell. Unquestionably one of the best restorers and a walking Ferrari encyclopedia.

Bud Root. Possibly the best Ferrari salesman in the country.

Al Roberts. Legendary Ferrari tech with an unbelievable life experience and knowledge.

Phil Tegtmeier in the Philly area is one of the best. Former Ferrari sales guy, solid judge for FCA concours events, and non Ferrari as well. TONS of years in the business, and knows EVERYONE who is anyone as well, also one of the nicest guys I've ever met in this world.

Marcel on a much larger scale is a wide and deep well of information, but I'm not sure he's an ambassador as much as he's an influencer in the market.

There are a couple dealer guy who in the past would have made my list, but alas, they've sold their dealership interests are are lounging about enjoying life.

That makes me think of Hank Carpenter too. Owns a Ferrari and enthusiast as much as he is a salesman.

I think people like Harry Metcalf, Ian Tyrrell, Coco Chinetti, Steve Ahlgrim.... people who have had experience with the cars, factory and people. There are several FCA club folks who have been around for a long time, that I think would be good ambassadors... if they have been in the club for 25 years or more ... they know the subject.

A couple years back on a lousy winter evening I was leaving a hardware store when a nice gentleman stopped me in the parking lot to ask about the shocks on my pickup truck.

We got to talking and it turns out he’s a Ferrari owner too. Before I knew I realized I wasn’t talking to an owner, but a bonafide collector. Meeting someone with that much knowledge and history with the brand was surreal.

I think I talked with him for nearly 5 hours. The time truly flew by, with me sitting there trying to soak up as much information as possible. My advice to other owners/collectors is to throw a stranger a bone and never underestimate who bump in to.
