It's not enough to see dozens of 250 GT 2+2s butchered to make Mickey-250 SWBs, cut-up Daytonas and other horrors. All that was missing was some idiots replacing real engines with bicycle batteries.

In an increasing number of areas of 21st century life I think the ultimate lesson will be: Just because something can be done doesn’t mean it should be done.

    Poor car.
Something to make real car guys puke, but all those Tizla, etc EV technerds will likely love it.
I just wish they wouldn’t destroy good, real cars to make this **** as I’d imagine there’s plenty of fiberglass, square tubing, etc kit car material around for this nonsense. :(

I'm amazed, (and appalled), that they are selling off the parts. You would think they would do the modification in such a way to allow the car to be brought back to original.

I asked my friend about that and he said the owner did not want the parts so he sold everything, motor with gearbox etc, all the electrics including wiring harness and full dash with instruments, all the cables and pedals and handbrake and some of the interior as well. I think he is getting the rims and maybe even the seats.
I told him to get this car and make a new one lol...

Sad as there a some replicas being made that are fairly decent and you could do this project with a clear conscience.

I’ve seen a 308 converted to electric. No one really raised an eyebrow. Converting a 246 Dino to EV! Those are fighting words!! The new Caterham EV would have given a much better and guilt free foundation. https://caterhamcars.com/us/models/projectv

IMO, no less idiotic than converting a 250 or 288 GTO to EV, but then again, I've always said there's A LOT of (strange) things people that do not make sense to me.

Like someone already pointed out "Just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should or it's a good idea".
    OTOH, it's their property ...

And where would that have been? The only time I am aware of it here there were quite a few telling him how dumb it was.

And there is the problem. He has no appreciation for the car he is modifying. To him it is just a cute car. 10:1 hes not really even a car guy. Hed be just as happy with a body kit on a Chevy volt.

Its a shame the parts and the car are being split up.

This does seem to be the worst way to go about a build like this. The 308 EV conversions that I am aware of were cars that had already been totaled by insurance companies due to pretty serious fires. These cars were "parts cars" already. To buy a complete working Dino for over $300K and strip it of virtually every component? If you saw the photos of the parts being sold off as one lot, it appears that the only things they kept were the chassis and body. Everything else was offered for very litte$. Why not buy a burnt 308 and drop a fiberglass body on it? There is a vendor in the UK who sells a fiberglass Dino 246 body that was created using an original Dino. They could get to where they are now, and save at least a $quarter mil in the process, all while avoiding the wrath of the fanatics.

Certainly one way to look at this. :D

Now, just think of the consequences if someone did a similar conversion on a 250 GTO and how much happier it would make owners of rest of them. ;)

Oh brother. Projects like this are such a downer. We can make laws to protect endangered animal species, and we can make similar laws to protect buildings and neighborhoods of artistic or historic importance, but there is no way to legislate good taste or outlaw bad judgement. Crap happens.

I’m not even sure where you could put enough battery power for decent range without totally screwing up the weight balance.

So lovely to cut the chassis American style rather than make Fiberglas copy of Dino or use a Fiero chassis.
Does Mr. David Lees know this project?

According to the photos, this is a Hot-Rod shop. Still no chassis number ? Sad to see a Dino destroyed by stupid people.

I have known about this Dino, but I honestly thought it was posted here on FerrariChat. I have looked and can’t find the thread. I am trying to figure out where I saw it otherwise. I am thinking it must’ve been Instagram.

At the end of the day, I hate that this is being done, but I am not surprised. There are lots of people with lots of money to spend. Lots of them doing things we would never agree with. No different than the crowd that says you should restore a rusted out old 250 instead of making it into a replica.

I am a bit amazed that they are tossing the mechanical parts to the side. But then again, I’m sure there’s lots of needs for those components.

In a strange way, this isn’t much different than the David, Lee Dino, just in a different direction. I am not offering opinion on that, but it is not something I would have ever chosen to do.

There are so many other cars that translate as a perfect platform for electrification. The Dino is not one of those!! It’s a rare and precious gem that deserves to be respected and curated. Truly a shame this is being done! One less Dino.

I saw it on a FB group I think.
IIRC he was selling the engine/GB unit for 25K, which seems dirt cheap, way less than I paid for a complete engine/GB unit.
