Ha right - I live in Chicago. I don't drive in the snow, thunderstorms, and I also ride my Harley! So, basically, 5-6 months per year.
My initial impressions of the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 19" tires are, very grippy, very smooth-if the road is smooth. They are very firm, so the ride can be really bumpy, esp on lousy Canadian roads. On the track I would like these A LOT. On the street, for just cruising around, I liked the forgiving ride of my 18" starfish with Pirelli P-zeros better.
Another vote for Michelin P4s, unbelievably quiet, reasonable price, and look good! I went with Ferrcal's recommended sizes and have had no abs issues!!!
Hey Gang, New to this thread so apologies in advance for any duplicate questions! My 2001 360 Spider has Bridgestone Potenza RE11 tires that are at least 5 years old (they were on the car 5 year ago when I bought it). They are at least 50% worn, and I suspect they are at end of their useful life. I have 18" Starfish rims, with stock 215/45/R18 and 275/40/R18 sizes. Two questions: 1) after shopping around, the Firestone Firehwak Indy 500 has awesome reviews and have an amazing price point. I see one person reviewed them, but on 19" rims. Can anyone with 18's on a Spider/Modena vouch for them and share their experience with them? 2) is there any value for sizing up to to a 225/40 in the front? The largest available rear stays at 275/40. Thoughts? Thanks in advance for your responses! Jimmi
Good to know. I'm tempted by the Firehawks, but if the P4S fit OK, I'm sure they're much better. The P4S come in 225/40 and 225/45. The 225/45 at 25.9" are very close to stock tire diameter of 215/45's at 25.6". But the P4S rears come closest at 285/35, yet that's 25.9" vs. 26.7" stock. So while it may sound right to keep closest to stock dia. up front, to keep the front to rear diameter ratios closer, it's actually better to go to 225/40 f. and 285/35 r., so long as you don't run into ground clearance issues (which seems doubtful; you lose only 0.5" in dia. up front and 0.8" dia. rear). If you went with 225/45 f. and 285/35 r., you'd be at 25.9" dia f. and 25.9" r. MPSS actually have the stock size 275/40 rears, and you could use those with 225/45 and only lose 0.4" dia. The only issue then is that P4S is a newer generation tire, and there's some risk that MPSS are discontinued at some point not too far off in the future.
Hi! I am trying to find a set of tires that will work for both my 360 Modena (215/275) and my 996 GT3 (235/295). I will use these sizes on aftermarket, wider wheels for the 360 Modena. Has anyone tried to fit the following sizes 245/40ZR18 295/35ZR18 I am confident the 295s will fit but I am afraid the 245s are a bit...aggressive... Thanks!
Dredging up this very useful post from 13 years ago... I'm wondering why the best upsized combination isn't 225/45 in the front and 285/40 in the rear (i.e., just go up 10mm in width from each of the stock sizes). These sizes are very close in diameter to OEM (just slightly larger), and the diameter ratio F/R is almost the same as OEM (and a lot closer than the preferred 225/40 and 285/35 option). The only downside I can see is that in the PS4S, this combo is about +$200 (2023 prices). Am I missing something?
Good question. I’m not sure I saw those sizes when I last replaced my tires. The overall diameters are closer to OEM. Maybe Michelin hadn’t yet released those sizes? Try them and report back! Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
I will if I decide to go with them. Won't be doing the tires until this winter -- there may be other options available by then.
Nice find, looking at tyres myself currently and that combo would be ideal. Will call Michelin next week to discuss. Searching on the forum I notice member rwk360 has posted on this setup: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/tire-sizes.671286/
