I would like to share my experience with getting my 458 Spider pass for NJ inspection.

Battery was disconnected for an extended period of time, which cleared DTC, monitors necessary to pass emissions inspections.

Driving sequences for getting the monitors ready:
-Cold start, idle for 5 min
-Drive at 2000-2500 RPM at 3rd or 4th gear for 4 miles
-Gradual acceleration till 6000 RPM and let it come down to 2000 RPM, 8 times
-Idle for 5 min, then shut off engine for at least 15 min
-Drive casually for at least 20 min

    Issue #1:
-After doing the driving sequence for 3 times, everything was ready, but FUE (Fuel System) monitor was not ready.
-Wide World Ferrari suggested to drive the car on highway at 1500 RPM for 10+ miles (FUE became ready)

    Issue #2:
-Everything was ready on Foxwell, including FUE, but when plugged into the State Inspection machine, FUE showed not ready (tech said he never seen this before).
-Wide World Ferrari suggested to do more rounds of 1500 RPM highway driving for 10 + miles.

I ended up doing 60 miles on highway at 1500-2000 RPM (45-50 MPH). Not fun at all. No one drives 45-50 MPH on highways, everyone was passing and honking.

State inspection must be done by law, and this could be some serious headache for some owners. I was really stressing out, wondering if some component is actually malfunctioning, and fear of failing the inspection. If you do fail, you have to take the car to the state approved repair center to fix the issues in NJ, and you must get it reinspected in 30 days.

For this reason, I had to bribe the private inspection station to check the I/M Readiness on the State Inspection machine without failing (if you go to the state inspection center or other private places, they fail you as soon as the machine reads any of above is not ready). This took an entire week to do the driving sequences, and 4 visits to my private inspection center. Hope this post saves time and $$$$$ for some members.

Special Thanks to Aaron, and his team at Wide World Ferrari Service. They are fantastic!

Wow. I am not US based but know of your strict emission requirements. Amazed that it takes this much effort to get a car that is completely stock to pass inspection. Does not bode well for the future.

Are you implying that low mileage is a factor in passing emissions test?

    I am not implying anything
I am stating, with absolute clarity, that low mileage is a factor in FAILING emissions tests

I live in NJ as well and had similar issues when I took it after the winter hibernation when car was 5yrs old with 5K miles. I took it out for a 15 min ride on the highways at 60-70 mph then drove through the towns (10 min) to the state inspection station and it passed with no faults. After that day, I always drive it for 20 min then take it in for the inspection which I've now done 2 times since the incident as car is now 9 yrs old and always passed. I was also told that do not go in with a full tank of gas, have between 1/4-3/4 which always the fuel ready to be ready.

Yearly inspections after your car has its 5th birthday, but they are focused on safety not emissions. So brakes, tyres, indicators etc

Please note that the drive cycle, and additional efforts mentioned here are required when the battery has been disconnected, and DTC/ECU memories are completely wiped out.
