You decided not to go with exterior carbon, personally I think this is a good choice, because the matte black plastic looks better on darker cars than the glossy CF. But when you are closer you realize that it is plastic. I am struggling with my car which way to go.... what was your opinion about it ?

Personally although the price was painful I think exterior carbon fibre is the way to go… especially as the side skirts and rear diffuser are relatively large on 296 …. Having large areas of dark Matt plastic for me cheapens the look of the car when you are up close 2 especially with a light paint like Titanio. Maybe you can get away with it in a black or dark blue car. carbon fibre just “completes” the car IMHO

Yes, I totally agree with you, thats why I struggle. When going red it would be a must have for me, as I think about Viola Hongkong it is optional, but as you said, I don't want to cheapen the look....

I think having it painted black is even better than CF. The design clearly intended to have these parts contrast the body, and black contrasts better than the derk grey CF. Simple as that. I’d wager if the black paint option was more expensive and marketed as superior to the CF it would’ve been more popular.

I have to respectfully disagree. Not sure there are many (or any) sports or super cars at this price point with large amounts of shiny or matt plastic on them.

As mentioned the side skirts and rear diffuser are large relative to the size of this car and really stand out so plastic finish wd be noticeable.

Personally one thing I hate about the 992 GT3 Porsche (albeit a significantly cheaper car) is the large black plastic front intake and spoiler. Again really cheapens the look of the car and I know a number of owners have opted to get them painted body colour.

Thats correct. If there was an option to get those parts painted in Maranello, I would opt for this. I have seen a 296GTB at my dealer, that was painted at the dealership before delivery. First, you won't notice that the part is any different material than the rest of the car, BUT it look far better than the glossy grey of CF. If I go CF, I will for sure use matte PPF to give the part a contrasted but fitting look (sorry for my english, I hope thats understandable)

I agree, even with the porsche part, I felt the same when I had mine. That’s why I’m saying having these parts painted black is the best choice.

You can, I saw it on the configurator. You can also do it on the Purosangue.

it was all or nothing for me on the carbon, and since i have two other cars that have a lot of carbon and wanted this to be a more classic, shieldless look, i decided to skip all the exterior. plus it being "hybrid" i think its more with the general trend to not have the carbon for me. i origjnally wanted to spec blu america, i love it, but then its a Sh*t show laying out the interior since i feel like black doesnt work with blue exterior

i had the option to paint it canna di fucile, to match the stripe but it doesnt look right. ideal for me would have been to paint it the color of the car, but that wasnt an option

Hmmmm. So I’m struggling with this exact thing. I don’t like the standard plastic but the carbon being so low down and expensive just doesn’t seem worth it. Are you saying it’s an option to have it painted black? I’d like this. Or you did it secondary?

It is option code PPE1 - Exterior Painted Plastics Parts Pack. It is also possible to have the exterior carbon in coloured finishes as well as a matt finish option which is code CEMP.

Be interested to know the price difference between the painted plastic option and standard carbon fibre for the exterior.

In the UK the PPE1 painted option is £9,245. The exterior carbon options come to £17,051. A good bodyshop would be able to remove the plastic parts and likely paint them for considerably less as they are designed to be easily removed and are not that large to paint.

Thanks - is an interesting comparison. For £8k difference on a £330-340k car I would still go carbon fibre but to each their own.

Or just wrap them in high gloss black PPF. XPEL sells a film just for this purpose, which has all of the benefits of PPF over vinyl (protective, self-healing, etc) and would arguably look even better than paint in the long run.

    https://www.xpel.com/ultimate-plus-black-paint-protection-film

The rear diffuser would probably be a PITA to cover, but a good shop should be able to handle it with minimal seam lines...

That sounds interesting, BUT my PPF Shop told me upfront, that they need the pülastic to be painted first, PPF would not hold firmly on the pure plastic. Any informations about this ?

Now I would disagree with you ;)
There is almost no weight saving concerning the body parts in plastic/CF. So the only difference is the optics and to be honest, there are supercars with full body CF that is painted regularly, like old Aston Martin Vanquish and I guess the Daytona SP3, too. So it is Maranello that makes us believe that it is a must have option - looking on CF exteriorly.

I understand the point, that concerning the cars price at appr. 380.000 € there is no big issue with 12-20 K€ for CF, but there are other nice things to tick for this amount of money, as long as money isn't a neverending flow out of your pocket.... Unfortunately my purse is an ending source :)

So I was told the same thing but I texted the owner of the detail shop I use and he said it should be fine to wrap in gloss black xpel and has gotten a lot of questions about it. I guess worst case is a body shop could paint the plastic and then the parts could be wrapped in black or clear xpel.
