    Good Evening.

My 575 has been in storage (10 months) due to some recent medical issues. Battery was on maintainer and disconnected.

Started right up after going through the proper procedures (Taz's list). Check engine light was on for about 10 minutes and went out. Transmission light stayed on during warm up. Gears functioned normally. Drove it 1/8 of a mile slowly and transmission light went out. Went into Sport mode and gears functioned properly. Drove slowly for 4-5 miles shifting through the gears in Regular and Sport mode. No problems.

Started home and transmission light came on. Would not shift out of 2nd gear so drove it back to the garage in 2nd gear with the gear number blinking and the transmission light on.

Parked and shut off engine. Waited one minute and restarted the car and all systems functioned normally. No transmission light and went into first gear with no problem. Checked reverse as well.

    Meticulously maintained with 30k miles.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Same intermittent problem. Lots of attempts to fix but, finally, had the transmission solenoids replaced and all is now well.

Steve- If you are lucky, just a glitch. If not, David's solution may be required. A loose connector on one of my solenoids gave the exact same symptoms. Once connected properly and fault cleared, worked fine.

    Thanks Taz and David.

Let car sit overnight and went through the starting procedure.

Drove it 25 miles and shifted through gears in both modes.

Lights went out and shifts normaly.

After filling, the CE light came on. Trying to sort it. The gas cap is in 2 pieces and it could be a venting problem. Going to repair the cap.

Thank you again for the reply.

The seals come loose on the gas caps. Like you said, just glue it on.

Back to the original problem. Intermitten transmission light and constant CEL. Transporting to Norwoods in Dallas.

I had the same problem. Replaced the shift solenoids (after trying other things) and problem solved.

Affirmative on solenoids. Had a loose connector on one and got the same indications. Some F1 faults will also give you a CEL on start-up.

Had an F1 fault on mine before I bought my techs Auto Enginuity software. CEL could be reset but would reappear on start. Got her through inspection (NM) by not shutting her down after the reset and leaving her running through the whole inspection.

Can the solenoids be serviced or replaced without dropping the transmission?

Sorry about the delay in my response. I just received the 2002 575 F1 back from Norwoods and I will attempt to describe the diagnosis and solution.

The problem: After being stored for 14 months, when first driven, the highest gear obtainable was 2nd and it would definitely go into the "limp home mode" with the transmission and check engine light both shining brightly. The gear indicator was also flashing.

The background: Always up to date on service and inspections provided by Norwoods annually and as needed. In October 2021 I needed open heart surgery and could not drive for a year. The car was on a maintainer and sat in my shop for 14 months, however, it was started and warmed up on a monthly basis. I would start and run for 30 minutes letting the engine warm and the ecus refresh themselves. Obviously this was not enough; the car needs to be driven.

Diagnosis and solution: A scan was run and the transmission potentiometers had failed. There are 6 and all were replaced. A full service with new tires and we are ready to go.

This car (I am the 2nd owner) is now 21 years old and it looks like it just came from the factory. It is pristine with 30k miles. I am considering removing the 3M film from the hood and having the paint corrected, then having the newer film wrap the front end. After investigating, I have found that the lights and windshield can also be protected. Does anyone have any experience with or thoughts about this? I think many owners would like to know.

I am now 82 and driving my 575 and F430 still puts a smile on my face.

    Thanks.

@kvm this past Sunday a bunch of us got together and Kevin had a film put on his car and on the windshield and I am really interested in going that route not only for UV protection but potentially against windshield chips. Perhaps Kevin can add what product his guy in SoCal used (Kevin actually drives his 575!).

Never heard of all the solenoids failing at once, but at least you are set for another 20 years.

While they were in there, i had them all replaced. Weren't that expensive.

Funny that the F430 has the same issues over the same time frame. They just set on my barn Image Unavailable, Please Login too long.
