Screwing all others lol! Max will have title and this is beyond over priced and Liberty are acting like they own Vegas! Crap show and it could be cold in Nov as well.
Spend 15G's to watch Lance battle Tsunoda lol!

It sounds like the COTA story all over again: First race you couldn't find a hotel. Then the novelty tapered off and now you can book a hotel and buy a one day ticket as you please.

I'll give Las Vegas a couple of years for things to normalize and then I'll book my own hotel and get my one day ticket as usual.

My LV native buddy, and business owner informed me that "They" are going to charge $1500 per person if they don't block the view of the race. I don't know if "they" are the City, or the FIA, or? Sounds kinda like living in your 4th generation home, then they build an airport next to it!

Can they legally do that ?

There could be some interesting court cases coming!

The Dallas Cowboy stadium at Arlington-->any business across the street from the parking lot of the stadium or stadium will charge money to park in that parking space.....some charged $500.....and the people pay it.

Not the same. The Cowboy organization isn't getting a cut of those parking fees.

I am talking about blocking the view from buildings on a street during a sporting event. Is that legal ?

It wasn't about me having to buy a ticket, either.
To me, it was the contest to see if I could actually do it - snow my way into a press pass.
Every event I ever shot I had legit passes - except for F1.

Back then - the 80's - it was very political - they only wanted to give out passes to photographers that had
covered at least four races - and the first 6 were outside N America, the 7th was Canada, Detroit was the 8th,
so the only people that met the criteria were the guys that followed most every event.
(Of the aforementioned 6, four were in Europe, 1 iwas Brazil, 1 was S Africa, so it was heavily slanted to the European photogs that didn't leave their continent)
And if you did get a pass, you rarely got a 'Hot' pass, I only did once in 7 years, probably by accident.

The main part of the Strip got its final coat of tarmac this week. Indications for painting lane lines and turning arrows are on the surface next so you know they are done. Then they are done. The picture of the workers in the street was taken yesterday. They had instruments for doing measurements of some kind. This has been a pretty amazing and difficult project and I think what is left might still be the toughest. Stands, lights, pedestrian bridges, all the video support, the FIA stuff, the barriers, the ground crew....etc etc.

I was wondering about that. They will certainly be a nuisance to the crowd.

Bus them out of the area?.....or temporarily move them?

    Finally some details....

Race fans and residents alike now have a better understanding of what to expect when the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place Nov. 16-18.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. for practice runs on Thursday, Nov. 16, according to a schedule posted to MGM Resorts’ Grand Prix page. Drivers are scheduled to be on the track between 8:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Thursday and between midnight and 1 a.m. Friday.

On Friday drivers participate in one round of practice, followed by qualifying. Gates for fans will open at 6 p.m., with the final practice round scheduled to take place between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Then drivers will race for their spot on the grid during qualifying, to be held between midnight and 1 a.m. Saturday.

Saturday is race day, with drivers competing for 50 laps around the 3.8-mile track. Gates for fans will open at 6 p.m. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. The race is expected to be completed within 2 hours.

In order for the race to occur, there will be various road closures in place in-and-around the resort corridor.

The installation of the barriers that will line the track will begin a couple of weeks prior to the race, according to Joslyn Garcia, Las Vegas Grand Prix spokeswoman.

There will not be any long-term road closure as a result of the barrier installation process. It will be carried out via rolling and select lane closures.

The roads that will be closed during race-related events include:

    — Las Vegas Boulevard southbound between Genting Boulevard and Aria Place.

    — Sands Avenue between Las Vegas Boulevard and Howard Hughes Parkway.

    — Harmon Avenue between Sands and Lamar Circle.

    — Koval Lane between Sands and Tompkins Avenue.

    — Spring Mountain Road between Via Del Nord and Linq Lane.

    — Flamingo Road eastbound between Mel Torme Way and Las Vegas Boulevard.

After each day of racing, the barriers will be re-positioned to allow for the roads to reopen to the public at 2 a.m. That means the race circuit will be open to normal vehicle traffic during the day.

Temporary pedestrian bridges to cross over the track are completed and will be installed when the event takes place.

I thought the 'Mob' no longer ran Vegas lol. Leave it to Liberty. The event is brought to Vegas and the fee is an after-thought. Sounds like a Liberty issue. They dont own the city yet feel they can charge a business who was there LONG before they were! WOw they get the race feed lol. Just open your smart phone and watch or better yet stay home and dont make Liberty richer than they are. This is an over-hyped event in a season that was over after race 6. The amount of celebrity trash will fill a stadium lol.

I drove down Koval Lane on Saturday. I'm going the opposite way that the racers will travel. There's a ton of work going on in this area. The road surface still hasn't been laid. The temp stands are going up on the right side. On the left side you can see the work still going on in the paddock area. Workers are going 6 days a week. If anyone know Ellis Island you can see it to my left near the beginning. These guys really lucked out. Family owned hotel and casino, great place for locals.

The amount of work needed to put this thing on is enormous.

When FOCA and the FIA signed their joint marketing deals, in the late 80's the photographer accreditation process was much more stringent. you had to provide proof of circulation. so that Limited the number of photographers per race - but also consolidated the look of F-1, In 88, they came out with that if you were less circulated - I can't remember the numbers but it was a pretty big threshold, then the FIA-owned your images. they would supply the film - fuji fill, and at some races even lenses you could use. depending on who your publisher was determined your access level. prior to that, you would get a Tabard and a photo pass - or in some European races the "hard card" that looked like a credit card with your picture on it. It was blue with three white rectangles on the front and FIA hologram logo, and a camera on a tripod on the back... still have mine. about 2 weeks later you would get a contact sheet with your pics, roll number etc, and choose the number of pictures you wanted and you could use those for circulation, sell to magazines etc... It took out the local guy, or smaller news papers and only kept mostly the Brits, some French and Japanese photogs going.... LAT and Zoom were the big guys, with LAT images taking over & I think eventually FOM bought them and their portfolio of pictures. its been so long ago! my dad and I did two seasons of almost all the races 88 & 89, and then in 1990, we did several European races. From then on it would be sporadic Canada, maybe British or French Gp... until about 1995 when he decided it was not worth it. This was mostly in the end for fun - as think with the travel and cost it was a breakeven situation. I see some of his pics on racing sites today... that are FOM owned... :(
