My brake light indicator on my dash panel started coming on intermittently. Has been increasing in frequency and is independent of braking.thoughts?

Check your brake fluid level and ad some if needed. I predict your clutch is leaking fluid because the clutch bearing seals are going.

If yours is a 6 speed there is a known problem with clutch connection block leaking.

Hill makes an excellent replacement block that does away with this issue.

Could be you are leaking brake fluid there.

    As advised, check fluid level.

actually, not just the block, anything that propel the throw out bearing fore and aft could be leaking to cause "brake" light, in my case the throw out bearing seals

Your car might be just fine, if the pads are toward the end of life, this is normal, the fluid drops to keep the system full as the pads get thinner.

Was having the same issue last week with the flickering light. I checked my reservoir (photo attached) and the fluid level is fine, at the max.

I started the car again. The light goes on solid while I’m stopped. When I inch the car forward it starts to flicker.

Any other thoughts on the cause or how to troubleshoot it?

Thanks, that’s what I was kinda thinking/hoping. And for $40 that’s easy enough to try. Will report back in a few weeks after I’ve installed the part.

I suppose the easiest way to check that the level sensor is causing the issue is to simply disconnect the electrical plug on the cap. This should make the warning light go out.

Disconnected the two little plugs from the cap. Turned ignition to on. Brake light was on. Turned over the motor. Stayed on.

Did little revs inching reverse and forward in my garage, braking in between, and was able to make the light go off and on. Soooo… I guess it’s probably not the plunger-sensor (already ordered it—oh well I have a spare now).

Next is to check the brake calipers like you suggested. I don’t have a lift, so we’ll see if I can get in there. I’m also due for my annual service so I might just ask my indy to inspect it.

Ah.. sorry my last suggestion came too late.

Actually, I had forgotten that there were two plugs on the cap. Both are part of the level sensor circuit. One wire (black) is attached to a chassis earth, the other wire (pink) goes to the instrument panel to turn on the light. Pulling either plug should have extinguished the brake warning light, so your problem is most likely in the wheel wells.

You can probably just take off the wheels and get a good look at the wiring. Do you have small jack?

The car can't distinguish between worn pads and low fluid. There is just a single pink wire going into the instrument panel from these 3 devices.

Just a brief update. If our diagnositcs (in PM) are correct, the problem seems to have been traced to the RH brake pad wear circuit.

The brake pad wear circuit has an black earth wire with a spade connector. When the earth connector was disconnected, the problem seemed to go away (Note that the problem is intermittent).

Sooo... the issue is not likely to be wiring shorting to earth... or the pink wire shorting to the black wire (further up the harness). Most likely a pad wear issue.

Will update thread after garage visit.

Forgot to update. I had new pads installed by my Indy during my annual and no more light.

Separately, I had the car in at the Ferrari dealership for something else. They called out the light to me, and matter of factly explained that it was worn brakes.

If there’s anything that’s weird about this to me it’s just the intermittent nature of the light being on. But MD26 if yours went back off sounds like you can run your pads for longer.

I wouldn't keep running. Change out your pads and stay safe. Their inexpensive and takes about 5 to 10 minutes per wheel once jacked up

Thank you guys for a quick reply. I checked the fluid level and it was good. I wasn't expecting to see the light while driving on a turn. I would imagine that this would happen while braking or something but again it's a Ferrari . What pads do you guys recommend? The rotors seem to be in a great condition so I guess I'll skip them for now. Thank you

There are a bunch of threads about break pads. OEM seem to reliably not squeal but produce a lot of dust.

My Indy convinced me that Portfeilds are great and don’t squeal if they’re bedded properly…but mine squeal. I haven’t had a chance to go back and ask wtf.

if you want something for tracking etc the other threads have recos

I run with Giro Disc. I installed big brake calipers with steel. Either way they should have something for you. I have no brake squeal
