Took delivery of my F12 over the weekend and while I'm absolutely loving the car, I've noticed an rpm-dependent whine from the front passenger area of the car. Only drove one other F12 previously that had a loud exhaust so no good comparison. Seems somewhat intermittent but more often present than not. No electrical, startup, oil pressure, water temp, etc etc issues based on the 50 miles I've driven so far.

It's actually the same sound that you can hear in Saabkyle's F12 review video from way back when, timestamp 15:03

Conventional wisdom says that's an alternator sound. Not able to get to the car for a few days, but planning on having it checked out later this week but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced that sound before - thanks!

The whine is from the alternator pulley. Ferrari made a more robust part that they made available to the early production F12’s. As soon as I replaced the pulley and changed all the belts (need to be changed every 4 years) the whine was gone

Did you have Ferrari do it? I've found a thread with the part numbers of a bunch of the components. Doesn't seem like a tough job for my local indy. Wonder how much risk there is to drive locally for the meantime?

Not really risky -- mine's done it for the last 30k miles :)

Mine doesn't make that noise but then again I don't stay in neutral and rev the piss out of it.

Yes I had Ferrari do mine. They said the best time to do it was when I changed the alternator belt pulley, they had to remove all the belts anyways so I saved a bunch on a standalone order to have the belts replaced. I hope you have a good relationship with your service advisor!

I've brought it up but it was never a replaceable concern.

Got to take a stethoscope to the accessory drive components the other day and it seems most of the noise was from the power steering pump. Fluid level is fine with no frothing and steering feels fine, will dig into it a bit further next week

Do we know if 2013 models had this issue?

A little update: Was tinkering around the engine bay today with a flashlight and noticed one of the bolts on the power steering pulley was really loose. Like a few threads from falling out altogether loose. Thankfully my wife was able to get an Allen key way down there and tighten it down. We ran the car in the garage up to operating temp and ran the engine up to 2k rpms 20-30 times and didn't seem to hear the noise.

I don't think it's that simple and am not considering it fixed, but I'll drive it a bit more tomorrow and see if I notice anything... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Yes. Mine is a 2015MY and it chewed through two alternator belts in a year before they approved warranty repair with upgrade to the newer pulley.

Scratching my head here. Did you say your wife fixed it and using hand tools?

I couldn't reach my hands inbetween the frame rail and valve cover resonator, somehow she could and was able to get a wrench to snug down that one and check the other two. We'll see what happens after a few miles on the road

As far as I'm concerned, she's making up for the beauty cover screw she dropped down the engine bay of my previous FF. Took us about an hour to retrieve that one with literal firewood tongs :D:oops:
