Car arrived at Pebble, Ferrari made a big deal about having concierge service, but they won’t accept the keys from transporter. How in the heck do most people get their cars delivered then? I guess two sets of keys bring the 2nd set with you.
alright, that’s all we got at Laguna Seca, always one of my favorites. 0872 Image Unavailable, Please Login not sure s/n Image Unavailable, Please Login 250545 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Test drove the 296 GTS with Ferrari. Great car feels like a Ferrari, sounds like a Ferrari. Compared to our California T shifts crisper and the hybrid provides such even punch through the rev range. A little intimidated by all the different hybrid related controls. The Purosangue has great looks, I didn’t drive, although a friend who did says it definitely is a SUV, not a sports car. Not 0872, this is the Wayne Sparling special built for Chinetti after Ferrari refused to supply NART with a 1971 312PB. Initially 0872 was modified by Nart but its tub retained (archive photos with rounded sides.flanks). Then Chinetti and Sparling decided to build a tub (archive photos with slab sided tub). At the time it used the engine, gearbox, suspension and other components from 0872. Eventually these were separated from the Sparling tub and 0872 was restored painstakingly by/for major collector PS on the US east coast who showed it at the Cavallino Classic 2003 before he sold it to the current Swiss owner. The Sparling special then started its own separate life in other hands and was rebuilt with a 330GT engine. 0872 is at Monterey having come all the way from Switzerland being raced in Laguna Seca this weekend. It is exceptional that both it and the Sparling creation are in the same place same weekend but of course the Sparking creation is not a Ferrari, just an anecdote. 0868 was destroyed at Monza 1969 and 0870 is impounded at Mas du Clos in central France by judge's order awaiting resolution of the Bardinon family dispute. It is a very convoluted tale, for the complete story read my 15 page two part Cavallino article on the 3 312P 1969's built and the Nart special in issues #99 and #101, 1997.
