    Hi All,

I'm about to clean and replace the foam and corrugated plastic backing on my rear parcel shelf carpet. The piece at the very back appears to be missing the corrugated plastic backing (see pic outlined in red). Can anyone confirm that there is indeed a plastic piece in that area? Also, anyone have a pic or maybe even a measurement of that piece? I would like some sort of reference when I cut the new plastic and I've yet to find even a pic of the back side of that piece of carpet.

    Thanks!!

Interesting. I'm kind of surprised. As-is, mine just looks sloppy, and I assumed part of the reason was the missing backing there. Below is a pic of mine (red) along with another much tighter fitting example I found on Google. I may try adding backing to that vertical piece to see if it makes any difference.

Also, your example does not appear to have foam backing (see the tan, stained piece on the left). I wonder if my foam backing was added by a previous owner.

Just looked at mine. Can confirm there's nothing in that section (no backing, no padding), just the carpet. There is some sound deadening on the wall of the shelf behind that section. My fitment looks identical to the tan one you posted.

I have the sound deadening as well (in shockingly good shape). I'm guessing the fairly thick pad someone added along with the carpet separating from the padding and padding separating from the backing was causing the horizontal part to not fit the top properly and then causing the vertical part to wrinkle a bit. I bet cleaning that padding out and properly adhering the carpet directly to the backing will do the trick.

    Thanks!!!!

No backing is why they wrinkle so much.

Has anyone repaired bubbling leather on the brake light surround trim?

Finished this job. I found some very similar corrugated plastic and used the old plastic as a template to create new backings. After some experimentation, I ended up adding a strip of backing on the vertical piece that connects the larger shelf with the rear/brake light area. That helped to tighten things up there. I even treated the luggage straps with Leatherique. Very pleased with the results.

Very nice repair. What did you use for the new plastic backing?
