    2 years old hose should not degrade like that. Must be 2 years old, after sitting on a shelf for 20 years.

    Yes it looks like an old part ... but bought from Maranello Classic Parts at the end of 2019, fitted during 2020, first used in Jan 2021. It's not ok to sell old fuel hoses without telling the customer.

    The link is no good, it is for Scuderia Rampante, they supply special fuel hose that many in the Fchat community have used over the years.

    My car had oil pressures on the low end of gauge since I bought it. Cold and with a hot engine even lower. Replacing the sending unit (twice since due to leakages over the years) didn't change anything. The rebuild years ago with all new bearings didn't change anything, and the pump tolerances were within specs.

    Recently, the pressures were reading even lower than previously so I decided to get to the bottom of this.

    It should be 4.5 bar @ 1'000 (or less with a hot engine), 5.5 - 6.5 bar @ 6'000 with hot oil. Or
    65 psi @ 1'000, 80 - 95 psi @ 6'000.

    At 1000rpm I got about 3.8 bar, a bit low:

    So, not a sender or instrument issue. The easiest course of action was to check the max pressure relieve valve, accessible from the outside. The free spring length should be 76mm, but was only 74mm:

    As the spring wasn't available anywhere, we pulled it back to the original length before refitting:

    and added an additional spacer shim, both parts readily available. Here the results:

    At 1000rpm, I got 5.5 bar engine cold and more importantly 4.25 bar with a hot engine, basically OK:

    The instrument now reads those values while driving, so I am quite pleased with the repair. Eventually, when I find a new spring, I'll replace it.

    Hi Urs,

    I think the idle pressure at hot temperatures was not what was important. A 4.5 bar pressure at idle is pretty high. I think the manual is more referring to a max value and also states that a value below 4.5 bar is normal. I would be concerned, when the pressure at idle is below 2 bar.
    5 Bar at 6.000 rpm really seems a bit low.

    Yes we are. It's amazing how far you can push a rope. And it's a nice rope worth pushing. Daily thumbs ups from other driver are a nice plus. Many people take pics too at the lights.

    Recently those occasional misfires re-appeared ... so I decided to pull the caps and have a look at the HT side.

    The rear cap was full of metal powder mixed with carbon dust: The rotor had moved out and scraped on the contacts while at the same time totally flattened the carbon contact.

    The front cap was wet, full of green span and the rotor fairly loose in the shaft.

    I had a spare carbon contact in my stock...

    Also contact #1 had rotated along the way and was ground to clearance by the rotor

    As I had no new rotors available at short notice I cleaned them up. Pretty deeply burned out contact area on that rear rotor that came into contact. This plastic had changed color from white to yellow, and is softening in contact with water! I ordered new OEM ones and will replace them shortly.

    Caps, leads, extenders all cleaned up:

    Then I checked the extenders and they all checked out with their originally measured resistances. Number 7 did display a bit of greyish residue at the contacts but measured correctly so I cleaned and re-used it.

    The HT leads also all checked out close to their original resistances. However HT lead Cyl. #4 initially had very high resistance. Repositioning it at the cap returned a normal value.

    Refitted, the engine runs clean again. Am I the only QV owner with eternal distributor cap/rotor trouble? Or is it just the ambient humidity here that creates those issues? I don't know but it is annoying.

    I think you are one the few with cap/rotor troubles because you are one of only a handful with over 151,000 miles on your Mondial. Outstanding

    Where did you get your previos parts from ? There are some vendors where quality is very poor. Even the measurments of the parts are way off to original.

    I suspect the parts quality problem is not unique to Superformance.

    Tha said, I had some Superformance dist caps, the holes the wires would go in were not drilled deep enough to seat the wires, so I drilled them deeper myself, and they now work fine. I then bought new dist caps from another supplier for my own spares, and they seem to be ok. Hard to tell who is actually manufacturing these parts, they sure do look identical, so probably same manufacturer and different batches.

    There is probably one entrepreneurial Chinese supplier making reproduction Ferrari distributor caps in small batches, with hit or miss quallity control. Some distributors might have their own quality control on the batches they procure, but I would not bet on that.

    If eg. Marelli or another original supplier procured these with proper quality control we would be better off.

    All one can do is provide the feedback to the parts supplier if there is a problem, hopefully they make it right. But these low volume parts are going to be both expensive, and of mixed quality especially if the manufacturer is not aware of problems. Better than parts being unavailable, and needing one off fabrication.

    If someone can indeed confirm a consistent high quality supplier of dist caps and rotors that would be helpful, obviously doesn't have to be lowest cost if the quality is truely there.

    Yes, there's a wider issue with repro parts, and it's not linked to a specific company or country of origin. My current caps are drilled-out Superformance units as well. I personally would prefer to pay a little more and get the required quality. It seems excessively dumb, as an example, to produce suspension balljoints and then use the wrong rubber compound to mould the protective boots leading to their short-term destruction.

    Its not just Ferrari parts. In the USA, some aftermarket suspension pieces are falling apart in less than six months. Throw in the number of counterfeits out there in quality named boxes, and its quite interesting trying to replace anything. There is a reason these parts are cheap and show up on discount web sites.
