Anyone have a summary of removing dash to replace radio?

That sounds very promising. Do you know if it will support wireless Android Auto, or if not, if it will be able to connect to the internet through wifi or LTE?

 

It already supports wireless android and CarPlay. It does connect to the internet. It acts like an Android tablet. You can even add a computer keyboard and use it as a desktop utilizing the Android Operating System.

It was because of that connectivity and that it is open source that makes it desirable. When it starts up you see the Ferrari logo etc, looks very OEM. Best part, if you for get your phone, you still have connectivity, can run Waze, etc.

 

Does that mean you can add a sim card for LTE connection? Or do you mean to have a wifi hotspot running in your car.

 

yes you can add a sim card, can connect to an external 4G hotspot, or connect to your phone.

Anything that an android tablet can do, including loading any android apps from the android store.

 

Cool, definitely an interesting project and I'll be following. Hopefully, it can get done by the time spring rolls around. I'll probably be looking to finalize my install at that point.

For those who have ordered the temp sensor ahead of time, which part did you actually order? I could've sworn I had saved this somewhere from a California thread, but looking at Scuderia car parts, it seems to be wrong.

I took apart the door to replace the power motor that failed in my window! it take about 2 hours but isn't that difficult - there are a bunch of screws you take out then then the door lift up and pops out. A few wire clips need to be unclipped, door locks wire needs to be unhooked, and that's it. Most people add sound deadening material in the door once you are there. The speaker easily comes out once you remove the 4 screws. Door also has to come off if you want to replace the 1" tweeter at the top; easy once the door is off.

 

I finally decide to upgrade my 2010 Cali stereo, could you please share the car service manual (only the area to disassemble the radio) many thanks

I ended up going with the Pioneer NEX7600 with the beautiful 9" touch screen. I'm very happy with the fit and look for my 2013 California (first gen, not the T that some of you were mentioning in this thread).

I'm just finishing up the install and everything is working very nicely (Android Auto, Alexa), except for radio reception. I used the Paser can bus adapter and wiring harness kit which came with an adapter for the pioneer radio input I connected this to the white lead connector on the car which should be the radio antenna. The other lead is mustard color which should be the GPS (see below). For AM, I cannot get anything in, not even the station I know has a very strong signal. For FM I can get connection on several stations, but not strong and some stations I know should come in well don't.

Any of you have a similar issue with radio reception and any options to improve it? I can't imagine its an issue with the head unit, but I guess I can't rule that out.

I'll send more pics of the Pioneer unit after I have the install finished so everyone can see the fit.

What kind of device do you use for cambus?
Do you have the wiring connection?

I've had a Pioneer W8400NEX in another car and I experienced poor radio reception as well. Not sure if it's a Pioneer issue or something else. I don't use the radio at all, so didn't really care about it.

Hope to see more pictures on how it looks from all 4 sides as well.

 

Important installation detail if you want good radio reception

I was able to figure out why my radio reception was bad. The leads for the GPS and radio antenna are wrapped together and there is an additional black wire lead that runs to an antenna pre-amplifier in the trunk. These run up from the passenger side footwell center console (US vehicles). See picture below.

The black wire requires power to be on when the ignition is switched on. It has a white connector on it and is plugged into another wire that is connected to the data link cable that is not used with aftermarket installations. I used my multi-meter and this wire wasn't getting power when the ignition was on, so I disconnected the connector and tapped it to the blue/white "System Remote Control" wire from the Pioneer unit (this is the antenna power lead).

The other thing I had to do is to tape the antenna wire adapter connection to the Ferrari white antenna lead, because when I moved it around it could alter the connection. Used the black fabric wire wrap tape that you need to wrap everything else for the install. I will do a separate post with pictures of the unit, so we preserve this post for the radio reception fix.

Here are the pictures I promised of the Pioneer NEX 7600 installed. I think it turned out great and really gives a much more modern look to the interior with the large 9 inch screen and no side bars like you have to use with the double DIN pioneers that most people put on the California. I used the Paser can bus adapter and wiring harness that others have recommended here. Didn't bother with the Connect2 from earlier in the posts here since the Paser if fully functional with this car and Pioneer units.

The Pioneer GPS antenna is mounted underneath of the center metal mesh on the top of the dash, making sure it was under the hole in the middle that has perforated metal above (not the solid plastic sections where it may not get a good signal). I didn't like the look of the Pioneer GPS sitting visible on top of the dash. Connects perfectly under the metal mesh cover so I think this was a pretty good solution.

Looks great. Did you purchase the paser from the Italian website? If so, what did you put for the tax id or VAT number? I'm assuming you're from Maryland in the US based on your name.

Is this what you purchased for the canbus + wiring harness?

Yes, I purchased the Pioneer Unican and the Chrysler II harness from https://automotive.paser.it/

I don't remember having to enter a tax ID or VAT number in the process, but maybe would have put something like 000000000 if I was prompted just to get past the screen since it really wouldn't matter for people in the US.

 

Thanks for confirming. I had tried putting in 0, but it still said it was required. I guess I'll try it with more digits then.

Would you be able to share how to get the screen to be sitting right on top of the leather without the surround in place? I went to a shop to get it installed myself since I wasn't brave enough to take off all the trim without damaging anything, and they ended up installing it with the original plastic surround in place. I had said I never seen it installed that way before, but they said that without it in place and the mounting bracket, you can't get it to fit securely. Is there adapter or something that's missing here? They're open to helping out and fixing it, but not really sure what needs to be done here.

I'm looking to tackle this in the spring for my 2010 Cali. I've done audio installs in the past but not on a Ferrari although I'm pretty confident I can safely remove the dash and be careful, not so worried about that. My biggest hangup is the backup camera and mic, mine came stock with the backup camera and I'm fairly certain I can't just re-use the same camera, not sure about the mic. So that would mean I have to run wires all through the car and potential do some fitting of a cam that wasn't made for the stock hole in the back which I'm definitely not too enthused about and is giving me pause.

 

I reused the rear camera. (I bought the Kenwood rear camera and did not use it.)
I added a front camera, though it does not really help much. I use it to see curbs. I did add a microphone. I lost the volume control on the steering wheel. My head unit has a dial, but the control from the wheel was excellent to have.

Oh wow, you just plugged in the old camera to the new head unit and it works no problem? Why did you add a new mic instead of using the old one? The adapter didn't work for volume control on the steering wheel?
