I've been in the market for an F430 now for a bit but scratching my head if I should continue to hold out for a 458/488. Wondering if that extra $50k-100k preowned is worth it. Saw this gorgeous 488 go on BAT this past week and really got me thinking. ;););)

I had an 05 F430 for 2 years... then an 07 F430 for 9 years... and now I have an F8 and the difference is just endless -- get the 488 if you can for sure... I loved my F430'a but cars and Ferrari have changed A LOT in the past 15-18 years so...

I agree with @05F430F1, if you drive a 488 after a 430, the 430 feels a bit agricultural. That 488 on BAT looked beautiful.

I did a track day with a rented 430 and 458 back to back.

While I loved the 430, the decision was really easy to spend the extra money. The 458 was just THAT damn good.

I also tested the 488 as it was new when I was buying and it was definitely more performance but it lacked a little bit of the drama and fizz than the 458 had in spades.

  6. Get the 488 and don't look back.

Although I can’t speak for the F430, I LOOVE the 488. It is amazing. And the one that sold on BaT… wow. Beautiful car, amazing spec, and the price it sold for…the buyer got one amazing deal.

I went from a 360 Spider to a 430 Spider to a 458 Spider. All incredible cars, but the 458 provides more of everything.

I have owned maybe 50 sports cars. The 458 was my favorite car owned until I got my F8. The 458 is a much better street car than a Porsche GT3 and more fun to drive. Cannot speak on the 430.

the 458 had slightly better noise than the F8 but the F8 is still more fun. The overall platform is better and has better steering feel. Probably same deal with 458 to 488.

I personally love the 488 styling. It looks clean and unadorned.

The transition from the 430 to the 458 was revolutionary, while the 488 and F8 were evolutionary derivatives of the 458. Most would agree that the 458 provides improvements over the 430 in just about every category. Many purists poo-poo forced induction of the 488/F8 over the N/A 458. This is primarily due to N/A engines having a lower red-line and diminished exhaust note; both objections are subjectively true. Having owned a 458, 488 and now an F8, the improvements in engineering and performance are so significant, any objections related to exhaust note are, IMO, almost completely invalidated. Moreover, the robust growl of 488 with its exhaust bypass valves disconnected, is delightfully pleasing to one’s aural sense. The F8 (Pista light) is other-worldly good. And while the F8’s extraordinary attributes eclipse any objections pertaining to exhaust note, I completely respect the preference of those that just want a more sound. Good luck with whichever model you choose. And when the Cognescenti are not splitting hairs, we can surely agree that all of these models are world-class, spectacular examples of automotive art and performance.

The radio and phone controls are 1000x better in the F8. It goes from absolutely dangerous to completely usable.

I've had a 488 for about 18 months now. And the sound argument doesn't hold Water in my opinion. My stock exhaust sounds like it could be an after market exhaust because I've broken it in. The 488 sound gets better over time.

The best advice I got when I was in this situation was to go drive the cars I was interested in then make a decision.

Unless you track your car, which most do not, the performances differences do not mean much. The feel of the car is much more important in my option. There is a reason an F40 is worth more then an F8.

I owned an 07 F430 for 1 1/2 years. It was immaculate and well maintained, but honestly those cars have so many issues (headers, clutches, sticky buttons, soft top issues, relays, gas leaks, cam shaft variators, door handles etc) that I felt blessed after a drive to return to my garage without a problem. The mechanic that performed the PPI on it said, if you want a more bulletproof Ferrari get the 458/488.

I traded up to the 488, I drive stress free and the BS about the turbo’s vs. naturally aspirated is ridiculous. All the performance Ferrari’s are turbocharged F40, F50, LaFerrari and the Enzo.

I agree with Eric.. I bought my last one with 50 miles on it, kept it 9 years, drove it 29,000 miles and all I did to it was batteries, tires, some actuator or something to do with the F1 for 2-2500 bucks and the exhaust manifolds cracked and were replaced free by Ferrari.
