Dave, there are side brackets on the lower part of the radiator that mate with these chassis outriggers and a pair of large thru bolts (10mm?) firmly keep the radiator in place. Then a pair of straps, similar to the exhaust hangers, attached the top of the radiator to the smaller tubing of the chassis. That's it. Speaking from experience here, my radiator cap was also scraping against the underside of the bonnet. I had to shave the edge radiator cap until the next opportunity when the radiator came out. Before reinstalling the radiator, I enlarged the side bracket holes by a few millimeters and solved my clearance problem. You may also play with the length of the upper straps to buy yourself a few millimeters of clearance. How close are things for you? john View attachment 3579128 Image Unavailable, Please Login
If only i had a chrystal ball. Curerently we are working hard to get the current range back on line. https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/pirelli-collezione/stella-bianca.html when i get more news i will let you know. i should be getting the 205VR15 CN72 again soon.
During my recent visit to the paint shop I paid particular attention to the lower radiator mounts and they are most definately higher tham those in your photo. This would explain the clearence issue. Thank you. Would you please email me the two photos from this post?
Gullwing Motorcars has #0135 for sale and EBay has #1775. I'm interested to see if either one sells and where the market is.
1315 has been for sale for a long time, previously with Gullwing, offered then via various venues, supposedly 'sold' - yet with Gullwing again?? 1775 is the Walter Medlin car reported as sold for $280,000 by RM at Monterey last month; Beverly Hills Car Club, the current vendor, has added $85,000 on top of that, with no added intrinsic value in that offering, still needing the same full restoration. The Medlin car would not be a market gauge in my calculations.
About 1315GT... what do you think about the trunk upholstery and the interior door caps? Are the colors shown in the ad original? I'm learning about these cars. Thanks. john
John, I am not surprised by the off-white vinyl trunk material. I have seen this white trunk vinyl several times before in Pf Coupes - I believe in this case it is original, given the patina and the character of the material. Here are photos of 1301GT, in its original unrestored state when I saw it at auction years ago. It also had the same white vinyl. On inspection of that car, the white had the same texture as the typical black material. Most telling was that the white vinyl edging material of the trunk fabric had the same unique cross-hatch embossed texture that original black PF Coupe trunk material has, see photo (at least the inside-plug cars - don't know if the material changed going forward in time.) Note that some early cars had a diamond pattern sewn into the trunk material in the vertical application, but this is not the norm for the typical Coupe. John, Although the metal interior door panel caps appear to usually be painted the body color, I have seen black door panel caps sometimes too, but I have no definitive answer on the possibility of black being original, though I would suspect yes on some cars - Pininfarina seems to have experimented with small detail tweaks.
lancia, thank you. I didn't know this little tidbit about the PF coupe. I had never seen any other color vinyl but black. But, I did find this picture in my records showing the black interior caps. Again, sorry, I can't remember whose picture it is. john Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is an thread on TY Called " preproduction 0891gt versus PF coupe series 1 but all pictures I publish are gone. Ciao C.
You must mean Crepaldi, date was 25/jun/58. Likely correct as Pinin Farina had started construction of bodies for pre-production cars 0891GT (Pf/22002) and 0889GT (Pf/22003) 75 days earlier on 11/apr/58.
I read in Sports Car Market that #1873 sold at the Sotheby's Cernobbio Auction for $522,163 and was in number 3+ condition. It was for sale at Gullwing for $650K for awhile making it difficult to understand where complete restorable cars are value wise. As much as I enjoy restoring PF Coupes it appears that my passion is not shared by potential buyers. As an aside I have a substantial collection of original parts from Series II PF Cabriolet #2123 and would like to reunite them with the car if the current owner wants them, alternatively they will be sold off.
Here a photo of the trunk of 0891GT, from the same series of period promotional photos (unknown copyright, if any). This early Coupe study has some interesting details that did not carry forward to general production. Note the diamond stitch accent pattern on of the trunk vinyl material. The door panel pockets are different than later production. I like the auxiliary panel for switches at the base of the main instrument panel - it has an appealing clarity of purpose. Also note Pininfarina detail use of full coverage ribbed vinyl floor mats ahead of the seats, compared to smaller heal pads. This floor covering detail is found in the 250 Cabriolet Series I. I wonder if this car still exists anywhere? (John, looking at some photos, the black color application for the door caps seems to turn up on white cars - perhaps Pininfarina found the contrast of a white door cap too strong against a darker panel leather.) Very difficult to find period photos showing the door caps. Finding black caps on white cars may also explained by the RESTORERS finding the contrast too strong, so they kept the original black. At this time I think the early m/58s likely had black caps, but that may have changed towards the end of series already. For what it's worth 1973GT - a late m/59 RHD - was avorio and period photos show white caps.
Here's the trunk of the then unrestored 1301 GT when I bought the car 17 July 2007. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
At the time I had also 0853 GT, the ex Prince Bertil of Sweden PF Coupé one-off, which I got 4 April 2007. I bought 1301 GT because it had the original engine for 0853 GT and I wanted to re-unite the cars with their matching numbered engines. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Since we are talking trunk upholstery, I'd like to offer this from 0943GT. It's my picture from 2003. john Image Unavailable, Please Login
