It took Button a "dominating" car to win his only title in 2009; Ross Brawn exploited a loophole in the rules with the double diffuser.

    Before and after that, Button was rarely a top contender: 8th, 17th, 7th, 9th, 3rd, 9th, 6th, 15th, 18th, 1ST, 5th, 2nd, 5th, 9th, 8th, 16th, 15th.

Jenson was, like Eddie Irvine, in F1 for the good time, but not really committed.

I'm pretty sure he'd do well. WEC drivers are a lot less talented than F1. Many F1 drivers who couldn't hack it in F1 went on to glory at Le Mans.

Beside, endurance is having a revival with the Hypercars, and Aston Martin is a sportscars company.

Mightily temping to go with this factual information to another thread but I'll refrain from doing so as the meltdown might just be too big for the fchat servers to contain.

Jenson was a more complete driver compared with Irvine.
Saying Jenson wasn’t really committed is in fact very damaging for Lewis ..;)
I don’t think this is true.

Stroll's Singapore weekend (he's ok after his crash so can type here):

Slower than Alonso once again, in Q1 he overtakes 6 cars, drives slower on tha tap anyways, smashes the car to pieces.

Well, upwards and onwards, race still to happen.

That was a huge crash - as an isolated event, I would not use it to despise Stroll because s*** happens.
    I'm glad he's OK.

I had completely expectation Stroll was going to crash in Qualifying. Didn't expect it to be such a massive accident though. Glad he's okay.

Seeing him dead last once again, Alonso well inside the top 10. I knew Stroll was going to push beyond his abilities.

Brundle said of the crash: Ten years ago Lance would not have survived such an accident.

Why is he saying that? What has changed in regards to safety in the last ten years? Yes, there's the ugly Halo, but that had nothing to do with this accident.

Am I missing here something? I'm thinking the cars have not changed in this regard since at least twenty years. Comments?

Obviously the safer barriers helped a lot, but those have been around now for some time as well. This ain't Tamburello in '94.

I think they are overstating how dramatic Stroll's crash was. In typical fashion MOST people believe a crash is devastating when they see parts flying all over the track. When the truth is this is a good thing as it releases all that energy and the cars are designed to do that.

In the past 10 years I think the cars have changed quite a bit in terms of crash impact structures and the way the cars are designed to break apart, and things like the fuel cell safety after Grosjean's crash. Do I think Stroll would have been killed if he was in a car from 2013? Not at all.

There have been spectacular crashes without consequences on the driver many years ago - I immediately thought about Brundle's crash in Australia in '96, the car was a total wreck and he just kept asking for another car

    That's what I thought too.

MS' Silverstone crash, another head-on in Spa to name a couple that went largely without much damage.

Team AM should move on from Stroll after this season. They’ll probably stick with him, obviously.

Singapore organizers should name that corner "CrashGate" corner.

That's the same corner Piquet Jr choreographed his shunt as well.

He(Piquet Jr.) ended up next to the pit wall so it's the same corner...fyi.

Brundle is totally unfounded to claim that crash would have had Lance hurt or worse had it happened 10 years ago. The car shed a lot of parts but it was not a violent and terrible accident where the driver was ever at real risk.

While not totally the case here I'm getting well tired of hearing how the Halo saves a life every time a car crashes. Explain to me how in the 5o years prior to the Halo not a single driver was killed in an an accident where the Halo was missing. That said we can all agree that RG's crash was a total life saver for him with the Halo.

Can you explain what you mean here? Never heard of Senna or Gilles, or any other F1 driver that was killed, or am I missing something?

Please let me know of an F1 driver who was killed in the last 50 years in an accident where the halo would have saved their life. Certainly other drivers have sadly died but I am referring to this constant ‘validation’ of the halo every time a car shunts
