Happy Birthday! I have virtually zero experience with British sparkling wine. It’s something I would love to learn. JK
Jim. The Gusbourne is also good. Around $60 I think. I've had a few others that were so-so...and to prove it I can't remember their names. We had a Brit sparkler on Virgin Atlantic a couple of weeks ago coming into JFK from UK and it wasn't so hot. They also had L-P so we were happy. Peace, Keith

Congratulations! 52 years is a great achievement, and you certainly celebrated in style. How is the 170th? I haven’t opened one yet. JK
We cracked into this one tonight. A truly great expression of Bollinger’s Pinot Noir. It’s the latest in their series of single property expressions, and delightful. Rich from its time on the lees, but still bright with apple and light tropical fruit. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
The latest edition from New Year’s Eve. 2012 Pol Roger Winston Churchill. It paired wonderfully with dinner. Smoked salmon Benedict, duck confit, capon with mushroom duxelle, rack of lamb. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
We had a bunch of L-P rose over Xmas in Las Vegas, a Roederer and a Taittinger but nothing special. My lousy head cold kept us from opening something nice on NY eve. Drank some kind of grower rose that I can't remember anything about
I opened the first of these last night. It was excellent. Very honey-colored with citrus, stone-fruit, flowers, and chalk. I paired it with some grilled lobster tails. Image Unavailable, Please Login JK
Anyone have any opinions/thoughts on Rare? I was given a bottle as a gift for my daughter's wedding but honestly know nothing about champagne. Thanks.
We received this as a gift a while back. Opened it. Very fresh. miniscule bubbles. I am not a fan at all of non dosage wines. This one has a powerful sourdough nose and characteristic biting acidity. Smells like a dish towel that has been out on the sink way too long. Pale amber color. Not my style at all, nor is it Janet's. One glass each consumed, the rest will end up in a Champagne sauce this weekend for the salmon. Fortunately have a bunch of my everyday sparklers in reserve so our Anniversary is not derailed. This guy in the bottle almost 20 years. Too bad. Cheers, Keith Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting choice. Many many years ago, I managed developers that ran the software for a major yearly wine competition. The company I worked for was a major donator to the competition, and one of the things they donated was our services. Anyway, one evening, one of the judges was taking a break and wondered into the room where the computers and wine were located. I had to escort him out, since the competition was a blind tasting. Once outside of the room, we started to talk about wine. Since I was not really a wine drinker, I asked him what he liked to drink just for the fun of it. He looked around like he was going to get in trouble for what he was about to say and said, "when I don't want to think about it and simple enjoy myself, I drink Martini and Rossi Asti". I know wine preference is a personal choice, but to this day, I still buy Asti to celebrate.
We drank a new one Janet and I really liked last weekend but I threw the bottle out. Have three more ordered will post.
2004 Krug on Christmas This was tight 2 years ago and drinking so nice today. Fine mousse, refreshing yellow fruit, caramel, brioche, maturing to be elegant. I regret selling some of these to dollar cost average. Hope everyone had a great day! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I talked to my wine guy who is wonderful. I told him: here's some free market research for your distributors and importers. I am not buying one single bottle of Champagne at retail price. There is a two year global gut (purchases down 8% and 10%) and Champagne houses have record inventory. And yet they maintain or raise prices!. My guess is the local Raleigh distributors did not move ONE BOTTLE in all of January. I have a small inventory of my own and I'll work through that until prices decline.
