This is a new thing. At the garden state show and my parking lights won't turn off

Tried all light switch settings. Key is out. And they stay on. I turned off battery switch and back on and they're still on

I put a new battery in the other day

    Any ideas?

Duh. I pushed the button on the console cleaning it. I had never used that before and didn't know it was there.

Don't fee; bad. I couple weeks ago I spent what seemed like half an hour trying to figure out why my dome light would not shut off. Toggling the light back and forth and opening and closing the doors. Finally the light came on and I got the light turned off. I had bumped the console button and turned it on.

Two of the most nonsensical, pointless buttons I have ever seen.

I just noticed that dome light button in trying to figure out the parking light thing. Actually tried that dome light button and still didn't notice the parking light one. They are a bit redundant.

Mine were on for two days while I tried to figure that out. This was the first week I had the car. The toggle light was a tough one too.
This is why I tell the kids not to touch anything. It's more because I'll never figure out how to turn it off.
    Yes. I'm an engineer. Ha

Took me a year to both notice and figure out how to turn on the front bonnet light.

Yeah Grant, clue us in. I saw the light but just assumed that the bulb was out or the fuse blown because it doesn't automatically come on when the bonnet is opened.

Just a bump here for a helpful post - just saved me troubleshooting why my parking lights wouldn't shut off.

This thread helped me figure out the same issue. Thanks!

(Why would anybody need to turn the park lights on without using the regular light switch?)

I think it is common in other countries to turn on the parking lights when parked :). I remember when we used to import BMWs (in the 80's) you could turn on the left blinkers with the key off by putting the blinker lever to the left. They also had "city lights" and adjustable high beams. They were light years ahead of the US in practical safety options.

No door or "bonnet open" switch involved, Grant. It's wired into fuse 12 which is powered when the sidelights are turned on.

... but not using the Park switch.

.... and speaking of the Park light system .... a quick question to the electrical gurus ... If you had a hundred lamps in parallel and one lamp in series with these lamps, might only the single lamp illuminate?

It's the only way I can make sense of the dash Park light circuit. The only earth return path for the dash Park light is through other lamps, but the other lamps do not illuminate.

When the Park light button and the stalk switch sidelights are turned on at the same time, the dash Park light extinguishes. I assume this is because power is on both sides of the dash lamp.

I am having the same problem. I turned off the switch (In red circle) on the center console and it makes no difference. Is there another switch?

Yes (same sort of thing on a 512TR where they use the starter solenoid "+" terminal as an earth for one of the relay coils, but the current is so small that the starter solenoid doesn't do anything -- and when the starter solenoid is energized that relay unenergizes).

Probably just a broken switch (or, hopefully not, a wiring short). Are your lights on with the ignition completely off? If your lights are on with the ignition on (only), then it's probably a faulty stalk switch (or whatever switch you normally have to turn on the lights) .... or you live in Canada and you have daylight running lights :D

[EDIT: so probably a park light switch issue and not a stalk issue] Unfortunately, I don't think I have a wiring diagram for your car (whatever it is). Anyway, if you disconnect one of the wires or plug on the Park Light switch, see if the lights go out.

Unfortunately, "parking lights" has some different definitions -- are you saying that all of your exterior side and rear parking lights stay "on" with no key (probably a broken wire/solder joint in the rotary knob switch making contact), or that the maybe the 2? exterior lights controlled by the parking light switch and the "P" warning light remain "on" with no key?
