Grange was 1999, so clear winner. Continuum 2008 and Opus 2005, both drinking very well. Sassicaia was quite good but very early in the drinking window.
I moved 20+ years ago away from the german Riesling area (there must be 1.000s of different ones for every taste, from $5 to perhaps $500 per bottle) to South Africa. Since there are so many good (red) wines in SA, I have no need to pay more than $15 per bottle. In fact, more like $10 (in the shop). The list is endless and I find that the year of vintage does not make a drastic difference. For reference, use Platter's Wine Guide. If you don't like their 5 out 5, perhaps 4 out of 5 is your taste. Serves as a suitable advisor. The highly praised french Bordeaux wines I find taste "diluted" in comparison the the voluminous SA wines. In October I am in Florida and shall find some wine from Napa (not the auto parts store!) on the shelf. I never had any. wine.co.za has plenty of info.
Hello boys, we had a couple of posts about MUGA a while back. I found this 2016 and opened it tonight. Perfect with the lamb chops. Purple, in balance, a bit sweet. tannins subtle. will not change your life but a nice bottle. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dustman. You gave me an idea. A lot of the posts here are of special bottles, high end wines, etc. What do you guys think of posting "Tuesday Wines?" Maybe each of us post one wine a week that we enjoy and has a high QPR. I'm thinking general guideline of a wine that retails for $ 30 or less. Anybody game? My first suggestion appears below. About $30. Thanks and Cheers, Keith
The make a very Burgundian Chardonnay as well that we very much enjoy but I thinks it's something north of $ 60/ bottle so it won't make the Tuesday cut. Let me know what you think of this bottle please. Cheers, Keith
Both have held up very well and were a treat. The Peter Michael seems to be at its prime. Will have to drink more of that. The Pahlmeyer could still go a while.
That's impressive. Thanks for posting. Please consider posting on our Tuesday Wine sub-thread. And you'll be hearing from me next time Eagles play the Pack out there. Couple years ago we had flights, club seats, reservations at that casino hotel near the little airport, the whole she-bang booked for the Eagles game and then Covid came along. Down the drain. Cheers, Keith
Hi Steve. Not a link. Please see my post 907 above and Dustman's post 906. I thought it might be fun for each of us to post a "daily drinker" that we like once each week, and I suggested a price point of $ 30.
We agree. Had the Isole tonight, all four of us would say it is easy to drink, but lacking in any memorable characteristics. I would put it lower on the Tuesday list, but a respectable wine for the price.
