Just got back from Palacio's in Scottsdale, Arizona. They are a premier upholstery shop. They do everything from convertible tops, RV upholstery, boats, airplanes, and car dashboards.

My 20 year old dash was starting to pull away and the plastic vents at the bottom of the windshield had pulled out and the small tabs to keep them in position had broken.

Chino at Palacio's did one outstanding job of replacing the leather dash. He also put the dash vents back in place using the original parts. All I can say is ... WOW! This looks better than the factory ever dreamed about.

Anyone thinking about replacing the dash in their car (or any upholstery job) ... whether it is a 360, F430, or whatever ... give Palacio's a call. They do this work on various cars and many people ship their car in. They do great work.

I went to three places to get quotes. Every place gave me the same exact estimate ... $5,000. I decided on Palacio's as I thought their shop looked the best, there were a couple of Ferrari's in there getting work done ... one was a F355 getting a new top and one was a Testarossa getting a total new dash. Also, I received recommendations from a couple of shops here.

I went down on Tuesday to see how things were going. My car was inside under a cover. Chino removed the cover and I would not have recognized the car. The entire dash and surrounding trim was removed and I was staring at a gaggle of wires.

It takes one full day to remove everything and then three days to strip off the old cover, scape off old foam and glue, apply new foam to dashboard, sand it and shape it smooth and clean it. The old leather is used as a template to make the new cover which is fashioned from a very nice new hide. I selected black stitching as that is what was used originally. It takes one full day to put everything back in place. There is clearly 40 labor hours in this task.

I was thinking of going with vinyl to save a bit of money. But going with vinyl would only save $500 and in the grand scheme of things, decided on staying with leather.

I booked this back in the beginning of September. Paid a down payment and Palacio's ordered the new hide with a "bring it in" date of Monday, Sep 25th. I brought in down on Friday Sep 22nd so they could start bright and early on Monday. I got a call today, Friday, Sep 29th at 11AM that the car was ready.

I'm over the moon on how nice this looks.

I wonder what they would charge if I shipped the upper dash to them.

I paid $2000 to a high end shop to recover the 360 top dash in Ferrari leather, bringing the dash to the shop. Based on the above posts of $5000 total, the removal and re installation labor would be worth about $3000. 15 hours at $200 per hour sounds reasonable. Of course prices may be different in different places.

I did removal/install myself, but as seen below it's quite a job, requires removal of side windows trim, which requires removal of the pieces around the roof, rear view mirror etc. And next it needs to all go back together.

I am just one step ahead of you. I now have the dash repositioned to bolt it back on and it is a big pain and not an easy thing to do if you do not remove the driver seat which like you, I did not do. Must use a mirror and light to get the upper dash bolts back in unless you are a tiny contortionist. I pulled the dash to get at a plugged-up A/C expansion valve and restretched and attached the front side of the dash while I had it off. My restretch of the pulled front vents worked well(Rizzo360 billet bolted vents) for three years and then the rear dash leather pulled back.

Pulling out the dash should have been easier the 2nd time. Nope. It is still a huge pain. A belt change is far easier.

That’s a beautiful job. I can’t believe what a good job that shop did. Simply amazing work.

Good price for a complete job.

Now if you use a reflective windshield cover every time its parked outside it will never need to be done again.

good advice, however i never liked them in a car or this caliber....so i sourced a long, large towel in bright red. made a template of my dash with all it's contours, etc. traced and cut it out on the towel. then had my tailor bind the cut edges and sew on a cavallino patch in the center of it. It came fantastic and was the cheapest project done to the car to date. I get compliments on it all the time. just a thought....

Does not keep interior cool and only protects the dash. I don't care what other people think when my car is parked. My 33 year old Testarossa dash still looks perfect and its cool when I come back to it.

Looks beautiful. I would be itching to have the wheel recovered in the same material to get that same butter-smooth matte finish on both.

    Interesting thread,

I'm doing this same thing for a client, (2003 convert) - his defrost vents pulled loose, dash leather was wavy, so a recover was necessary. We ran into a problem where the dash (we thought was black) was actually very dark blue, and we searched and searched to find a compatible color - could not find any to match the proper shade of the color. Ended up having to order similar leather grain and custom dye the leather to match the original. Project turned into a real CF - then the leather was too thick for a nice looking french stitching as original, so we had to have the leather thinned so we can do the appropriate stitching for the correct look.

Now waiting for the dash trim work to be finished to reinstall. 5K would be a bargain on this project. Also for consistency we did the A pillars and header panel so all the color was consistent.

Additionally, while all this was out - i did the sticky project as well - so door panels came off, console and seats out. Great time to leatherique clean and deep clean the leather. It will be beautiful when done, but not a 5K project :-( .
