I wouldn’t pay a premium for 27 year old paint….and if you did, any number of minor incidents could wipe out the premium. And yes, fake shields are a value deduct.

I don't agree... You're not paying a premium for 27 year old paint. You're paying a premium for the milage and originality- including original paint.

Fake shields are absolutely a value deduct if I were to buy the car. I will say just because its a big deal to me does not mean its a big deal to you or everyone. If you feel a special connection to that car as if to say "That's the one!" then go forth and buy it.

There are a lot of cracks in one of the shields.

Yes I noticed that also. I asked him to send me pics of paint meter readings next to the shields and they came back 10-17 and 6-7 further away on the same front fenders.
I guess someone in the past removed the fenders, had the shields embossed, then resprayed around the shields any defects created by the embossment process.

The importance of original paint is not so much the paint. You know the history of the body work and accident history by default. The older any car gets, the greater importance that has to some of us.

In some cases, you don’t even need to remove the fenders.

One side appears to have a line or seam all the way around it, I think the front of the car has PPF on it

My car has aftermarket embossed shields, done without removing fenders (according to the invoice). Looks fine to me, repainted obviously but i'm not that precious that it worries me
