My second generation Raptor has a manual mode, which is paddle shift. Ten forward gears, so it was a very busy experience (And I was always looking at the dash to confirm what gear I was in), but it was like driving a race... pickup. The Raptor is a clown shoe in town - because of the width - but it absolutely rules on interstates and US Highways. Suspension can put you behind the wheel of a 90's Lincoln Town Car.
When I converted my car, I figured the people that would bother me the most are the people that think being able to drive a manual is a good substitute for a personality. I was quite wrong. The people that bother me the most are the purists who spend more time talking about how pristine their car is than they do driving it. I've had people on this thread personally message me about how I "bastardized my car" Heck, I'd be willing to wager that there are people on here complaining about how manual converted cars aren't natural yet bought their wife botox and implants. Maybe my car won't be worth top dollar. I'm keeping it and will enjoy it the way I want without having to worry about where the nearest SDX is. If you want to keep your car pristine, make sure to leave the stickies on and don't get aftermarket headers for your 360/430. It's this snobbiness that is the reason a large percentage of the car community hates Ferrari owners. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
When I picked up my 2009 Cayman with the DCT, the service manager told me not to use the paddles. He said the car is better than you are. He was correct. I remember passing on a two-lane highway starting at 70 in 7th. When I kicked it to pass, I saw the shift light go from 7th to 3rd in a flash and then start back up again. (This was not an S.) Nobody can shift that fast with a manual. Nobody can shift that fast with paddles. The service manager said the car is programmed to watch you and anticipate your movements.
My wife has a Toyota Highlander with everything on it. I hate the car. It hates me. The damn thing actually turns the steering wheel without asking!
Interesting. I have always found P-Bug types to be the worst. I can't imagine anyone taking the time to message you about what you have done to a car. Takes all types.
I think much of this manual fascination is in part driven by the so called "market" but for me there would be a big difference between buying a factory manual and a converted manual. Respect to those who do the conversion but I highly doubt they are without teething issues. Perhaps its better to simple concede that arguably the 360/575/612/430 were the last Ferrari's developed to be manual from the outset. (though in the case of the 430 that claim is very debatable). There is of course a view that doing a manual swap eradicates issues with the F1 system and may in fact save money later on....getting stuck because of a F1 position sensor issue would not be an issue on a manual car...
I still drive a manual Fiat Abarth 500 in Atlanta, and when in traffic it gets old fast... so can't imagine a 599. I do miss the clack clack of a manual Ferrari. I'm not sure about enjoyable being more or less in either car.... the 599 is a great car... no matter what gearbox. I think for me, the f1 box is best suited to the car... but I don't like it in stop and go traffic....that is a problem. I'm not disparaging the 6 speed... just from my 20K miles in my car... I can see manually shifting being problematic ... more on the way down than up.
I don't necessarily disagree with your points, but the car was fully color changed (repainted) from Grigio Ingrid to Rosso Corsa. That's why the bidding wasn't there. It was a fully factory part manual conversion done long before EAG or anyone else, which I do think adds value. Without the repaint, it would have easily cleared $100k.
Agreed. I also happen to love Grigio Ingrid on a 612 (especially with a gated manual) and I think Rosso Corsa is probably the worst color (other than maybe Giallo Fly) you could have on a 612 or any of the big, 4 seat V12 cars. Not sure if the market shares that perspective, but certainly no one wants an aftermarket repainted F-car. I was running a Gransport as a DD and occasional track car for 18 months; I see the 612 as the big brother to that car. We are going to be adding a little one in the not-too-distant future, so I would love to run one for a year or two as a DD/family hauler. If the F1 box in them is anything like the Gransport, I would want a manual, so a solid, factory parts conversion on a 612 is a value add for me.
I had the GranSport for 10+ years. The factory F1 was soft, but the software upgrade made much crisper shifts and longer clutch life. My original clutch was still good at 45k miles. I would expect the 612 more bulky to toss than the GranSport, but I also had springs and sway bar upgrade.
I'm limited to automatics now due to injuries from a 2016 crash (I was hit.) I wouldn't have preferred the Tiptronic in my 911/964, but driving in southern California the traffic is almost always a problem. I've grown to really appreciate the automatic, and because it's a relatively simple ZF unit (with a Bosch brain wired in...) it should outlive the engine. I considered an F1-equipped F430 but driving around town it was just ill-suited to the task.
Oh please. I've seen you get quite upset when people have the audacity to have an opinion. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
He struggles with English. He cannot differentiate between fact and opinion. Another casualty of the American public schools.
I never would buy a Sports car of any make that wasn't stick. There is a certain oneness with the car. A major accident has changed things that I can't trust the 3rd peddle L leg. I must say i certainly enjoyed my 360 F1 & I currently enjoy my 458 Italia. If I didn't have a problem i would probably pursue a manual, but not to the extent of buying one that's been modified. You will definitely suffer financially in the end at sale time.
Your lack of communication skill translates into large ego for me? Hm, thats a new one. I guess we are not going to bother with that part of you showing us I "get quite upset over people have the audacity to have an opinion" and you are just going to shift straight into insults. Sounds fun. And I am supposed to be the one with an attitude issue.
