Actually I fully agree! I hate this Vegas prostitution of F1 and hope it fails miserably and this is a one off with cancelled contracts, NOT the ten years or whatever is planned.

I gather the cold temperatures and long straights which will compound the problem of trying to keep tires warm could mean...icerink grip....of course on a proper circuit with actual curves, not 90 degree kinks, that would not be a problem.

Better one bad weekend and cancelled future editions than long term degeneration of F1.

It's not my scene at all, but I do not wish them to fail in their enterprise.
I have no axe to grind against Liberty or the promoters.
Lots of money has been spent for that event, why would I wish them harm ?
I prefer to see several GPs in the States than visiting some unsavoury countries I could name.

Well, the pre race thread is...dead. At least for Brazil and the FP and Qualifying. I've never seen it like this on FChat before. It is as if the whole weekend wasn't going to happen. Outside of Hamilton chasing Perez...is there any reason for the other drivers and teams to show up? Couldn't we settle the last three races with coin flips? I wonder what the tv viewership will be like in terms of audience ratings?

    24 gps per year.
Decades ago Formula one was an event.
    Now ..
Add to this two ultra dominant teams since 2014 and don’t be surprised if old fans lost their enthousiasm a little bit.

Proof that more doesn't always mean better.
The present calendar is just too heavy, and brings weariness in the teams.

And to fans 'weariness' - when this is a 'cost-containment' accounting engineer's championship. This season was over, literally at race 8. Over. The glossy press of anything else is just that. Window dressing on a series focused on gimmick and cost more than competition. Mercedes have stated recently they knew in TESTING that the season was over for them LOL! Liberty have focused on cheap, quick street events. The cost of which is levied on to the promoter to deal with, except Vegas of course. Thats the glitz, celebrity pinnacle in the new Liberty 'event-focused' crown.

The new larger base of new fans are not racing fans so much as they are 'event' fans, going to an event. The racing is literally a side-show to the overall 'event' GP. The costs of everything are ridiculous even for basics. The literal monetization of everything is so the promoter might be able to hold an event for his scheduled contract. When tickets are available still for races and they are, and attendance is down in Austin and the promoter is on record stating so, what else are we not hearing.

The design and placement of the track in Vegas looks like an access trap. It will be so much better to be bored on television watching than being cold, outside in that mess. Late at night, cold and fans are going to be happy lol?? This is a promotion race for a series that has little focus on the future. It is a post covid - new fans- symptom of growing too far too fast and thinking nothing will ever change in the future. It can never make less again lol. So little of history they see. Typical success ignorance.

I will be in Dubai for other things on race weekend, but Yas tickets are available - https://www.yasmarinacircuit.com/en/formula1/tickets?ymc-location=no-filter&ymc-tickettype=no-filter#all

I am just wondering how long Liberty will be able to maintain that pace before the bubble bursts.

Difficult to tell. So many good 'racing' circuits could be rotated in to a variable by year calendar. Nothing spoken about that lately. Yet they will go the China for what?? Its beyond me why they can find it difficult to balance good honest racing with location and tracks to support it and offer a bit of 'show' they are obsessed with = sprints etc.

Yes but this GP is not taking place in nearby Pahrump in the next county where it is legal so....they are prostituting the sport instead....
