    Hello All

my 99 550 maranello losses power on semi sharp turns for a few seconds then the power all comes back at once if you still have your foot on the pedal. Happens when my gas tank has less than half or is close to quarter.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you changed the fuel filters recently? May be full of disintegrated rubber from the pump mounts.

Mine (2003 456M GTA) used to do this as well. Quite annoying. Since that time I have had my fuel filters replaced (had some sand) as well as the fuel pump rubber cleaned out, injectors cleaned and new gaskets, plugs, wires, major service, new fluids/filters including for that killer GTA 3 speed w/OD absolute banger of a transmission, new throttle cables, idle adjusted, cooling upgrades, BCM filters, new suspension & bombs, MSW ECU, etc, etc….

Between now and then, I have had done so much to bring the car up to “perfect” mechanically, that if I even attempt to touch the throttle in the same turns (that bothered me) the traction control trips.

The damn thing is so much quicker/ torquier now that it would likely go sideways if I did not have the traction control turned on (attempting the same turn with the same amount of throttle). Very happy with this. As a result, I do not know if it still exhibits the problem but I will check and report back when my car gets back….from more repairs :(

You said you had no lights. Did you get any codes?

What caused you to start looking for a Motronic ECU. Did you find one?

Just to make sure it is the fueling issue vs. traction control, try the turn with traction control off but make sure you are not exceeding your talent or safety on the streets.

I know its not the traction, what i think the problem is that when my gas tank is below 1/4 on turn of of my fuel pumps and or fuel line goes dry for a few seconds.

Maybe the little filters on the base of the pumps are not fitted properly (as shown in the YouTube video in the other thread).

That could be it i will have to check it out, one thing i’m sure of is that my problem is from the fuel pick up system because when the car has a full tank of gas this problem never happens. I just tried the same turns and roundabouts with a full tank and higher speeds, the loss of power never happened.

Not likely. Pump gets fouled by debris mixed in tank from failing rubber bits. Tank likely needs service per TAZ post above. This is a known issue these cars do this. Almost every 550 tank in the fleet has been serviced or will need servicing.

I read that the 456M fuel pumps ran at full bore the whole time regardless of throttle or speed so injectors generally would not “get clogged” at a random speed or RPM (maybe) assuming everything in the tank was not already turned to a sludge running throughout the system-which would be most unfortunate. Maybe fuel starvation (?) but I have to believe the gas tank is baffled (or something) to prevent that, it is a Ferrari after all. Anyway the 456M itself went around the Fiorino test track faster then the 512TR if I am not mistaken so it must be something wrong and look forward to what you find.
