Did you try shining a flashlight down into the tank? Sometimes fresh oil can be very difficult to see on a dipstick. I usually use my Optivisor when I check my oil levels here.

This makes sense. If the OP is used to diesel engines, that oil gets black right away.

You might be on to something here.

Diesel engines are so strange to me. It's like if aliens landed here and decided to build engines, but then suddenly left and some farmer found the motor they left behind and decided to duplicate it and put it in his tractor... and then word got out and somehow CAT learned about it.

To me, any rational human being on Earth would only ever build 2 or 4 stock motors, or maybe if they dropped a lot of LSD, then maybe a 13B or 20B rotary.

To this day, I'm still not totally sure how diesel engines work... and I plan to keep it that way.

There’s gotta be! It couldn’t go anywhere else except on the ground.

It's one of the great mysteries of our time.

I mean, even a very small amount of oil entering the cylinders will produce a lot of blue smoke.

One time I put a bit too much oil into my motor while trying to do a compression test and rule out the rings... the oil ended up pooling in my exhaust muffler. For two weeks after that, every time I pulled away from a signal, it looked like James Bond was releasing a smoke screen. People at the light behind me literally had to wait 5 seconds for the cloud to clear so they could see where they were going.

Finally I had to take a 100 mile trip on the highway to burn out the oil. I think maybe all this was driven by 3-4 TBSP worth of oil. So yeah, I'm very curious where all this oil is going. My money says they pull the motor and all the oil is sitting in the tank.

The 430 takes about 9.5 liters of oil on an oil change. Dead empty its 12. If you have 9 liters in it..you can safely drive the car. Even at 6 your ok as it's a dry sump pressure fed piling system.

Make sure THE OIL temp is above 90 degrees when you check the level
