    Guys,

Just curious, thinking of swapping my Cali for a 488 and wonder how reliable the DCT is in the 488. Thoughts and experience please.

I traded my 2010 Cali for a 2017 488 GTB. I grew to not like the looks of the Cali and was always concerned about roof mechanism and DCT potential failures. My 488 was perfect. Never should have sold it.

There is some chance it'll fail. Right now, it appears newer models are more reliable, than a 2010 458, but a 2010 458 is also older. The truth is is it always going to be a worry. The odds are not close to zero on failures. Just go to an indy mechanic's shop. He has a car with a DCT sent off. I had one fail in a 2016 AMG GT, with a near identical DCT. It happens.

That being said, I don't personally know anyone with a 458 or 488 DCT failure. I don't know the guys whose cars I've seen waiting on a part. The odds of failure are less than 25% IMO.

If greater than 1% and less than 25% scares you, buy a Tesla with no DCT and sleep better?

Thanks I have a 2010 Cali with 50K miles on the clock. It just started acting up and I'm wondering if its worth fixing or swapping for a 488 (again with upgraded? sensors), and it being a newer car, hopefully, less worry. The independent UK chap who repairs the DCTs is Ferrari trained and has all the proper tooling to do the job.

There's a chance anything mechanical will fail. The DTC in the 488 is much less a chance than previous models. Also a car that driven regularly has much less a chance with leaks and such than one that sits.

  6. The 488 should not be compared to a 458.

For reasons beyond just the DCT.

I think part of the problem is I had a new garage built which took almost 9 months, had the Cali in storage, and drove it to the MOT center in May, and then left it. I guess at 13 yrs the car is not the youngest.

I sometimes wonder if the gear-specific torque curves in the 488 provide a reliability benefit, alongside the standard Ferrari sales pitch of enhanced drivability, fun/close ratios, and fewer torque-induced challenges to stability control. Time will tell, I guess. My 2016 has been perfect, now at roughly 11k miles.

Is there any aftermarket support for these transmissions? Shep Trans or Dodson work on these if needed? I know the Huracan/R8 has a ton of support as needed.

    Guys,
I have 488GTB 2016, driven normally mostly calm in city are. 41.000km driven.
I week ago I saw oil leak behind of car. Got quickly time to Monaco Motors Ferrari official dealer service in Monaco.
Drove car carefully there. Service manager explained well where the problem might be. Usual when car is "that old" but dam only 41thKm.
So the issue is this: https://www.transmida.lt/en/seal-238
Two axel seals will loose elastisity and oil will start to leak in bottom of that housing where is small hole. See pics.
Earlier here was chat room where some one posted where from we can buy these parts.
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/dual-clutch-transmission/getrag/7dcl750-7004
That is the list of cars where is this same gearbox. MB, 458 and 488.
Ferrari dont sell anymore that housing part for 488, where is bearing and seals for 488 geabox.
However that same part is still possible to buy as 458 part. So that will also be much cheaper that change complete
gearbox that Ferrari offer officialy for the all gearbox issues in 488. What I am going to do is I will just change
these seals that cause leak and hope it will solve the problem.
This is the seal x2 that is causing the leak:
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/seal-238
Sold by that Transmida.it company who has all the parts to that gearbox just 1/5 th of price than
    Ferrari - same parts.

List of Ferrari that use this gearbox:
    Ferrari:
    CALIFORNIA 2008-18 7 SP RWD V8 3.9L 4.3L
    F12 2012-18 7 SP RWD V12 6.3L
    F450 2009-11
    F458 2009-15 7 SP RWD V8 4.5L
    F488 2015-18 7 SP RWD V8 3.9L

    Hi,
More information for all about to do these seal changes..
Today I saw my gearbox opened. They said that yes at same time is the
best change speed sensor, oil filter kit, all the seal, gasgets and all the
    screws ++++
So I contacted Transmida.lt and here is page where you can see
all the originel OEM Getrag spare parts to this gearbox
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/automatic-transmission-parts/ferrari
Ferrari is selling also these parts via dealers but because car don't have warranty
so I bought these parts from transmida and they are mostly 50% cheaper.
    You will need:
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/service-kit-8
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/fastening-parts-kit
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/repair-kit-27
    https://www.transmida.lt/en/speed-sensor-3
They have also speed sensor kit but not in stock but with all those you will
    cover same parts.
Price of new gearbox, which official service must offer first and works here is about 32.000€.
My estimation now is, job done with these parts, oils, works about max 6-8000€
Also they told me... cars 6-7 years old Cali T, FF, 488,458 they are doing 1-gearbox per month all the time
so if you have this gearbox, so this is the basic service that must be done in one day.

Same gearbox is in been many other models Cali T- FF- 812- early La Ferrari - 488 so if you did not hear this before... so later it will come up for sure when cars get older, service mechanic said that this is common problem with this gear box, and not only with Ferrari but also on MB, some GT, SLS models use this gearbox.
I just ordered these parts and paid them to Transmita.lt so their service is very good, fast and with UPS delivery.
