    Local place has the Midwinters Night Dram for $200, worth it?

    They also have the Smoke Wagon, don’t remember the price. Decent?

    Smoke Wagon uncut is usually a very good barrel-proof. If you're looking for a great old fashioned or a light sipper, the straight is excellent and usually nicely fruit-forward. small batch kinda gets lost in the sauce.

    If it's the Act 11, I'm probably not going to go after it myself.

    I'm fortunate to get to call this gentleman friend, and I trust his reviews completely. He's not steered me wrong, and I've even had him buy a handful of bottles for me completely blind because he assured me they were worth it. Every single one has been and then some.

    I would pick the Smoke Wagon over the Mid Winter Night's Dram all day long. I bought a bottle of MWND (Act 10, Scene 1) last year and I will not buy another one. Just not my thing I guess.

    I’d like to try a peated bourbon. Can anybody recommend a good one? Thanks!

    Not sure such a thing exists since bourbon by definition isn't peated.

    Yes, it’s a real thing. Peated barley is substituted for malted barley. Buffalo Trace had a limited release but I’ll probably never be able to find it, so I’m looking for some experiences of others who’ve tried it, and brand recommendations. I’m not a fan of flavored spirits but this seems different and as a long time scotch drinker I’d like to give it a try.

    Well heck. Today I learned! Had no idea, appreciate that!!

    Also if you're ever in the DC area I know Jack Rose has a boatload of BT experimentals. I'd bet that even if it's not on the list, Bill's got some in the cellar.

    I don’t know Jack or Bill but if either one has an unopened bottle of BT peated bourbon to part with….:)

    lol......Bill Thomas, he owns Jack Rose (biggest publicly-available collection in NA, second largest in the world, any given day 2700-2800 bottles *OPEN*) Pre-covid he was moving over 10k bottles a year--by the dram.

    If he's got it, he's amenable to a discussion for sure.

    No photo but we also both had a lil TH Handy. Now putting together a few handshakes for our annual secret santa exchange. Makers BEP, Michters 10, Handy, a VERY superb Elijah private barrel, and an equally superb Old Elk rum-finished rye.

    Recipient had better appreciate it. :p

    @armedferret

    Btw, the SFTB is the smoothest 130 I’ve ever had, even more so than the BTAC releases. At around 230 market value it is incredible value, in fact I would pick it over all the BTACs other than the WLW.
