Hello guys, Recently we have noticed that the ignition switch on a 1963 250 GTE 2+2 have become very hot after use. This has not been a problem in the past. Has anyone run into this problem before? Any solutions to this problem? Thank you, Kobra
Be careful NOT to diassemble the lock cylinder, re-assembling is a tricky job and requires a special tool. Mine is not pretty - made it in 10 minutes using random junk from trash - but it works, beautifully! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had this problem and discovered the cause by accident, fortunately. It was due to the brass nuts coming loose. I didn't know about it until the engine started dying upon the switch overheating. It would restart after the switch had a chance to cool, but would die again after a while. john Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmm, thinking about it, the cylinder does not fall apart by itself - two pins at the end need to be removed in order to take it apart. Mine was stuck with a grain of sand wedged in by a pin so it needed to come apart. And yes, I still remember the cold sweat when I realized that reassembling is not going to be very easy! Crumbling bakelite appears to be a common issue. I was lucky to find a cheap ignition switch for replacement parts. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks guys for giving some insight to this. Will have to deal with this soon by the sound of it. Kobra
