So, about that crow dinner...

 

Just like Red Bull doesn't have 2 Verstappens in their team, Aston Martin doesn't have 2 Alonsos.

I thought everybody understood that.

At what point do you draw a line when the #1 team-mate scores x-percentage of points over the #2 team-mate? Is it 50%? 70%? 75%?

Or does that not factor in your performance mindset? Or should it with regards to Stroll since he is an "anomaly" in F1 performance data collection since it really doesn't affect his future seat qualifications. Why bother right? Whether he scores 1 point throughout the season or less than 70% of his team-mates points.

 

Who was betting against Alonso? Certainly not me. Alonso is clearly the better driver, I never doubted that for one moment.

I know....I know.......I guess in a couple of FChatters books, that's okay in your F1 world.

You guys are a but a small handful of people that are okay with Strolls performance throughout his career against his team-mates.

 

I wasn't suggesting that Stroll would beat Alonso, that's ludicrous. But he's been FAR away from Alonso all season.

 

Lance is a rolling road block lack of overt talent. Momentary on a good day. FA is in another galaxy far, far away lol

 

Probably tells you more about Vettel in his final years than Stroll.

I don't know that I would characterize Lance's performance as leaving anyone in the dust? He's certainly better than Logan Sargeant but that's about it.

 

He is 10th in the drivers standings of 22 drivers.

I am not the least concerned by such issues, and I don't see why you bother so much.
I only follow F1 for my enjoyment, and I don't pretend to tell how Aston Martin should be run.
I am quite happy for Lance Stroll to keep driving as long as he wants.

 

So ...

 

At the end of the 2023 season, he finished 10th (out of 20) in the WDC ranking .
That means his result was better than half the field, not only Sargeant.

 

So Checo finishing ahead of Hamilton is saying that Checo is better than Hamilton.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the WDC ranking when it comes to a drivers race-craft when comparing other F1 drivers currently in the grid.

But, that's how some on here view things I guess. That's not how I see things.

You even said Gasly is a better driver than Lance Stroll YET Stroll beat Gasly in the WDC rankings. Of this I am in agreement.

 

What do you put emphasis on then if you don't think the WDC ranking is a good indication ?

Your intuition? Your preference ? Your emotional attatchment ? Your dislike of a driver ? Your gut feeling ?

 

Race-craft

 

And how do you measure race craft ?

I would think that a driver who finishes 10 out of 20 has demonstrated some race craft to get there.

May be you should revisit the definition of race craft.

Racecraft is a combination of a driver’s overall racing skill, combined with their theoretical knowledge and decision making ability. Racecraft is essentially the sum of a driver’s overall racing ability. This can include their race pace, tire and fuel management, and their overtaking ability.

 

Look, IF you put Stroll in the RB19 and he beat 17 out of the 20 drivers on the grid....does that make Stroll a better driver than-->Alonso? Norris? Russell? Piastri? Checo?....or is he so high up the WDC standings because of the car?

Stroll shows NO progress in his race-craft in his 7, going on 8 years, in F1...zilch!! Nada!! In my Tex-Mex language down here in South Texas "No vale madre!!" (Translation-->He isn't worth anything) when it comes to his race-craft on the track.

We see progression in some drivers and regression in others. Stroll is stagnant in his race-craft. You would think he would've learned from Massa, Perez, Vettel and Alonso about race-craft.....but nothing. Absolutely nothing.

That's how I rate Strolls race-craft.
