There has been an ever-increasing discussion/ bickering between local council and state government, sporting bodies, RNA, about who will cough up for the cost of the games. In our current state of monetary incompetence by airbus Albo and his cronies at a federal level, and the chook at local level, do the members here honestly believe that this country and Qld will be better off after the Games?
The usual catch cry " oh but look at all the benefits we'll get, does not hold water. Our Sydeney games posted a 96 million loss!
Discussions are in place that Sydney Olympic park is to be demolished in the near future, something like 30 mill for maintenance/year alone?? So that didn't last long.

I think the budget sits at about 7 billion which we know in all cases, except the LA games, where they actually turned a profit, the budgets always blow out to double or triple, and more once the CMFEU dip their corrupt ladles into the pot.

In the case of Qld the whole Gabba is going, a historic 100 year old school is going etc, when we have a health system that's in complete chaos, people being triaged in the back of ambo's in the street because they are ramped out to the footpath from casualty, our elderly not being looked after, a housing crisis forcing a massive rise in homeless living, this on the back of 1 mill immigrants in the last two years, and we haven't built 250,000 news homes in a year. ( 1 mill divided by average of four/family).
And most here would agree our roads are...................... ratshit.
From what I can ascertain, looking around at studies done in all cases, except LA ,the host cities are no better, and most are worse off, after the games than before, and most are left with a massive debt that takes decades to square the ledger.

Professional sport (which is what the Olympics now is) is a blight funded by taxpayers. I’d be OK paying for Paralympics, but NOT for the professionals...

Most of the world has worked out that hosting the games is a WOFTAM. My recollection is that Brisbane was the sole bid for 2032. Yet another example of politicians making expensive commitments without regard for voters.

Sydney got none of the promised benefits, no change in tourism growth but a lot of barely used facilities. The equestrian centre for example now has no scheduled events at all.

The 2000 games were a great indulgence, I'm glad I was here for it but I wouldn't vote for a rerun.

It took over ten years for these muppets to build the sunshine motorway upgrade, how the hell are they going to do what they have committed to in 8?

I’ve always said Olympics is full of stupid boring sports that no one gives a **** about in reality, but then pretends to care once every four years before forgetting about them again.

The whole thing is a WOFTAM.
