I’m not looking to spend Rolex money…maybe Tudor money, though. Preferences…..stainless steel, white or silver dial, the day and date to be in windows, not indicated by a hand or subdial; needs lume; no dive or other tool bezels. Some of the older Seiko 5s are crazy cheap and probably idiot proof (I need that ;)). Thanks for your suggestions and experiences.

Tag Carrera has some models with day and date. Longines and Oris have day date watches as well.

Hamilton, Tissot or Bulova have good looking affordable day date models.

I’ve pretty much settled on the Tudor day date, but I have a question that I haven’t been able to find answered in the internet:

What are the differences between the Tudor Prince Day Date and the Tudor Prince Oyster Day Date?

    Thanks.

From one of the watch forums:

They all have the same movement, so it's purely cosmetic.

What you're calling the 'Oyster' is the same watch as what you're calling the 'Prince'. 'Prince' is merely the term given by Tudor to designate an automatic movement, so that 'Oyster' is also a Prince, just with a different bracelet and perhaps the acrylic crystal.

In the final months of production, Tudor gave the watch a sapphire crystal and a newer style bracelet. That's it...same case (although the inscription on the case back makes no reference to Rolex), same movement.

The most recent Date-Day watch is now the Glamour, with the same movement, but different dial and hand design and bracelet and case.

If you wish to have the watch with an Oyster bracelet, and acquire one without, there are lots of aftermarket choices that will fit the 20mm lugs and with the exception of those who congregate on the Rolex/Tudor internet forums who would be inclined to grab that watch off your wrist to examine the clasp logo and the clasp blade engravings, no sane person would ever know.

The Prince Oysterdate and Prince Date are different generations of the same model 74000/74000N. The change to Prince from Oyster had to do with Tudor separating itself from Rolex. You will find Oysterdates and early Prince Dates with Rolex crown and Rolex marked case back. In the late 90s, Tudor stopped using Rolex parts and the watches were produced with Tudor crowns and case backs. The only other difference that comes to mind is the lume and sometimes the bracelet. It comes down to what you prefer.

Thanks very much, Pol! That’s incredibly helpful. I’m inclined toward vintage so it seems I’ll be looking for an Oyster, with Rolex signed crown, caseback and bracelet clasp….assuming it’s lumed. (I was never considering any of the current type day + date anyway). The information isn’t clear on which series has lume and which doesn’t.

I looked at about a dozen Oyster and non-Oyster Princes on Chrono24 and they all have lumed dials and hands.
