How many Ferrari's do Americans currently own? I don't mean how many have owned. I mean have one or more at this time.

I can't find any good info online. Here is my math. Tell me were you think I am right or wrong.

First, I throw out any sent to the US prior to 1978. Those numbers are small so they are in the margin of era. We'll add them in at the end. From 1978 to 2024 is 46 years. Lets say the average over all of those years was 3500 per year. Sometimes less, sometimes more. 46 times 3500 is 147,200. I think this is a little high but not by that much.

Now discount 5% from crashes, totals from accidents, theft, owner abuse, weather (aka floods / hail), bad luck (a tree falls on it), fires and just forgotten and left to rust. That leaves 139,650. Now throw in the those pre-78 (lets say 10,000) and minus those with owners who own more than one and those in museums.

    You get about 145,000 - 150,000 owners.

Now there's about 110M adult males in the USA. So divided by 150,000 you get 733. Or one out of every 733 adult males you meet currently own a Ferrari.

I would think the number of owners is far less. I don’t know a lot of Ferrari owners, but the ones I know all own more than 1, and some a lot more. I think when the Ferrari bug bites, it bites hard

Lake Forest Ferrari says that around 222k Ferraris had been made through 2019. If you assume 40k since (which should be knowable from the financials if someone is so inclined), that gets you to 262k.

If you assume 95% of those cars survive (total guess), you're still around 250k.

If you assume 1/3 of those are in the US, you're in the 85k range. A third is about right for recent sales; I don't know how that compares to years past or how to account for net imports on the secondary market.

Ferrari says 40% of owners own more than one, which means the average owner has at least 1.4 cars. And since many in that 40% will have a lot more than one, I'd guess it's more like 2.5 or 3 cars on average. Let's say 2.5. That gets you to less than 35k owners in the US.

No idea if that's right, though I'd bet I'm closer.. :D

I currently own a 360 but I have been thinking of getting a second 360 or a Cali 30 to add to my garage.

You must have too much time on your hands. Then guys like me that are hiding seven of them, and an additional parts car can really screw things up. There HAS to be a lot of nuts out there, that just can't stop with one. I can't help myself and continually think about another. Not all Ferrari's are hugely expensive.

I would say more along the line of 75k from reading the responses.

Do I win a Ferrari now? I’ve never owned one and it might be fun

I wonder if those numbers have people who lease and have those cars financed. Technically when your car is financed you don’t own it same with leasing.

I think your pre-78 number is high. The rest I have no idea. My Jan '78 build 308 was 23421, now cut that in about half as only odd numbers for street cars and that was about the number of total road going Ferrari's built by then. So 11,000-12,000ish cars total worldwide.

Here in flyover country (cornfields of Illinois, about 120 miles outside of Chicago) I've had NUMEROUS people see my F430 and say that's the first/only Ferrari they've ever "seen in real life". I get that comment at least once a month...

    Beautiful collection, and beautiful garage.

Your cars need to work on their hide-and-seek skills though...
