In similar weather I see similar temps in mine, cruising below 3000 rpm in 6th gear. That's normal.
True. I did notice that the water temps did slowly warm up to almost normal operating temps over time on the highway. Probably only 10 deg F off normal, eventually. And yes, the Michelin PS4S tires are pretty great even in freezing temps. Best summer street tires I've used. Still, I try hard to put 90% of my winter miles on true winter tires in a car/SUV with all the modern safety equipment. I do like challenges and adventures, but black ice or damp 33 degree roads are risky in a 28 year old car nevermind one with the wrong tires.
All gauge readings were where they should be under the conditions in which you were driving, Ivan. Thermostats are inexpensive. There's nothing wrong with changing it at your engine-out but it's good practice to test the new one before it goes in.
As an aside, my Challenge car's engine cooling system is still set up as it was when it raced. Challenge regulations mandated that both fans be on when the car was on the track. My car has separate toggle switches to turn the fans on and off... Image Unavailable, Please Login The shielded switch is the master ignition switch.
