This issue has been discussed in other threads, however my situation is a tad different. My F430 F1 gearbox had a lot of work done to it after it refused to go up past 2nd. It hasn't been a problem since.....until the past few weeks. Please bear in mind that at the point of completed work, the clutch had just 3% wear. I don't push the car and don't expect there to be any issues with the clutch, certainly not after 8k miles of use.
Now, the car isn't used too often (hence 8k over 4yrs) and incredibly the gearbox has another issue. From the usual 5 minute start up period, it will drive maybe 100yds before throwing itself into neutral. On two occasions it has stuck in 4th and begun revving higher than normal for a short period. If I leave the car to run from cold for 20 minutes or so, it drives like nothing is wrong. I've tried everything from a new battery, to an ECU reset. I'm at a complete loss. BTW, the fluid level is good (and clean).
I hope someone can help as I've had enough of Ferrari's as of this moment.

    Many sincerest thanks in advance

Had the same thing with my 599. Would not go higher than 2nd gear. In my case it was the clutch. A few other parts were changes as well. A lot can go wrong with the transmission. If Ferrari could not resolve the issue, maybe have it checked by someone else?

That problem was solved. Its now throwing itself into neutral, unless it's been ticking over for 20+ mins

Whenever I do clutch work or gearbox work on Ferrari, lambo or mas I always get customers to come back after a couple of hundred miles for a PIS adjust and gearbox relearn.

scan it for any trouble codes, guarantee you it’s got a mis-shift error.

haven’t had a complaint doing it this way. Drop me a PM if you need further assistance.

Many thanks for the advice. A friend of mine is a mobile mechanic and heavily into supercars (He owns a Porsche GT3 RS), so I will have him plug his laptop in and check for that issue. However, would having the car 'heat up' for 20+ mins before enabling use, be an indication?

Just thought I'd give you an update, with thanks. I had the F430 in for service and asked the techy if he'd be happy to complete a 're-learn', after I'd explained the confusing issue with it. Your advice was spot on. Gearbox now as sweet as a nut.

I would if I were planning on keeping it, but from the experience I've had over 3 1/2yrs of F430 ownership, I will never touch another Ferrari again. Like Range Rover and a few other manufacturers, they're clearly living on a name and quality has taken a knock. What other car of this level needs x3 manifolds in 28k miles, and a major gearbox overhaul? Never again.
