For headlights, the large stalk on the left twists, and then goes up and down, to control parking lights, headlights, and high beams.

Wipers are the stalk on the right.

Under the hood, there should be a metal rod which you lift up to hold the hood up. I don't have a picture or anything, but if I remember correctly, it is on the left side of the car.

Now I really am feeling dumb. I just spent about 1-1/2 hours going through the Owner's Manual and I still cant figure out how to use the headlights and windshield wipers. I hope not to need either, but it's sort of essential.
I found that the hood (bonnet) support is where it's supposed to be. it has been bent. I used the core from a roll of paper towels tonight it worked but it's not something I want to do forever.
I really do appreciate the help I'm getting here. Thanks.

Maybe your car was modified or something? It shouldn't be that complicated. Or maybe I am getting it wrong-- I don't have the car right here.

There should be two stalks coming out of the steering column on the left side, and one on the right side. The smaller one on the left is the turn signals, and the larger one controls the headlights. The end twists to turn it on, and it goes parking lights, headlights, high beams from top to bottom.

On the right, there should be one stalk which controls the wipers. Bottom is off, up one for normal speed and two for high speed. Pull back for washer.

    Can you post a picture?

    • Both doors have problems with the detent. Fixing that requires removal of the interior door finsih - so it will have to wait, maybe forever.
    • Hood prop. Apparently someone at the dealer attempted to force the lid closed without stowing the prop first. I think I can straighten it.
    • Gas gage doesn't work at all. Tank topped off at 1 gallon and gage showed zero.
Latest mystery: There are points around the interior with keyed cylinders (glove box, fuel fill, trunk). The ignition key doesn't fit them. Is there another key and how do I get one?

For what it is worth my 365GT did not have door detents. Serial # 11649. There is a separate key for those items.

Yet another "new owner question" for those familiar with the 365GT 2+2.:
Is there a secret to filling the gas tank? I can't get the pump nozzle to engage the filler to the point where the nozzle seal is in functioning (and fuel flows). I have to physically hold it in place and hold the trigger; it takes considerable effort. If I have to move, the seal breaks and the pump is shut off (acting like it's full).
I'm not sure if the gas gage is functioning properly. I intend to top off the gas after every drive of 50 miles or more.

Sorry, that is just a fact of life. I had to do that this weekend with my car, and worse, with an extremely slow (non ethanol) pump!

It could be worse-- my 1968 and 1970 Mercedes have the gas cap behind the license plate, so you have to bend over, hold the seal thing up, and fuel that way. Not fun!

Antone have a source for gas filler caps for the 365gt 2+2. I have one that worksm I plan to try converting a gas cap to a gas pump nozzle receptor. Pressing the nozzle into the filler for the duration (slow speed) of the fill. The high speed latch can't be used because the gas backs up and shuts off the pump.
    Thanks - Ed

FYI, if you really want to get the car full, it is even slower than that. The 365GT has two fuel tanks, and a fairly small pipe between them. So when you fill, it only goes into the LH tank, and then it has to run across. You can usually get several more gallons in if you fill it, stop, wait for a bit, put some more in, and repeat that process over and over.

    Congrats on getting the car
Bonnet support is pliable and can be persuaded into place. Better option is adjusting mount points.
    dash labels from post correct
headlight stalk is brilliant.... if doesnt work maybe a connection
wipers are truly hilarious... i thought my 73 scout wipers were bad... if right hand stalk does nothing would look at wiper motor... mine work but are comical and i enjoy them...rainx saves the day
need to find a station with a good pump that is not too vacuum sensitive... if a bad pump you are holding
a lot of chokes...right side of underdash next to right side of steering wheel have been removed for ease of use. My hardware is still there...looks like hood release but mechanism long gone

Just checking things out today and found that the headlights and the wipers are non-working. I haven't had need for either (and don't plan to) but it would be nice to have them working.
My first suspicion is the electrical work in the steering column. The turn signals work, so I know it;'s not all bad.
Is this a common problem or am, I just "lucky".
If you know of a place to start and some idea of how big a job it is.
    Thanks - Ed

Key Blanks - Where & How
The Ignition Key for my Queen Mother broke off. I successfully removed it. Luckily, I have a factory original (but no spare now)
I ordered a blank online that seemed the best match for the broken key. $21 later and it's obvious that it won't work.
Can somebody tell me where/how to get the right key blanks for 1970 355GT 2+2? Thanks - Ed

I use Ilco Canada key blank NE8. The Neimans can be found, but they are pricey. The Ilcos are readily available at most quality locksmiths, and are a very close match to the Neimans

You can still get the original Nieman blanks in Germany? Or are you referring to the generic Silcas?

Yes, Neiman. Flipping auto-incorrect. For everyday use I don’t care about the manufacturer, hence the Ilcos. I keep my original Neiman keys at home. However, if I could get an original Neiman NE8 for a couple of euros, I’d buy a dozen. Original NE8 Neimans tend to sell for over $300 each in the U.S. Reproduction NE8s go for $30+ per blank.
