Yes it makes a mockery of the notion of 'private property' when the state can levy an arbitrary tax which effectively garnishes the lions share of the rental return Nevertheless ! I have a plan . . . .

No, that's the ex-Briggs museum car. It doesn't have a chassis number. Ours was ex-Omicron UK, a well known and documented Stradale-to-Group 4 conversion. With a chassis number
nobody knows. A possible explanation is it's the bits from a real car transposed onto a replica tub. It isn't stamped with a chassis number because the real cars are well documented and you'd quickly be caught out. Thomas Popper is the Lancia equivalent of Marcel Massini and (a) he has exhaustive records and (b) everybody knows him. There's also the complication of "scocca" numbers, which is a reference number Lancia stamped on door hinges, boot lids, etc. People place a lot of store in them but Italian manufacturing and record keeping was inherently chaotic and real cars can have inconsistent scocca numbers. Bottom line is that you need multiple sources of truth to verify a car. Not only the numbers on it, but period photos, original registration & logbook documentation, verification in well researched books, etc.
I met the car again, not as an owner. I was offered a half share but declined - I don't have the motivation anymore plus I have a thing about not going back.
