Just calling it like I see it. Ferrari paint sucks just as bad as Porsche. I’ve owned a few Porsches, have family and friends that own them now and see them littered everywhere here. I’m a car guy, I check out every car I see on the daily, trucks too. Porsche paint is no better than Toyota or Ford IMO. My shop is right by Champion.

Like I said, ALL modern robot sprayed paint sucks. It’s churn and burn production line work. Not acceptable on any car but people pony up and pay without complaining so manufacturers don’t care. lol, hell Ferrari knowingly sold cars with sticky buttons! It’s all about profit now.

Well...here in Charlotte the Aston/Ferrari dealer (FCI) used to share showrooms with the 2 marques. So, looking at an Aston and Ferrari, under fluoro lights, showed Aston to be vastly superior.

My 812 (Tailor Made) has Blu Swaters Opaco for a finish. I don’t see any paint defects, but it well could be I’m not looking at it with a critical eye. Anyone experience issues with the opaco finishes?

Ferrari paint has always sucked. They are famous for it. Go back to the days of the Daytona and cars were being delivered with rust bubbling up through it. In the 308 period when Salchi brand was still being used warranty repaints were very common. And if it was not poorly sprayed it was going to self destruct in a year or so from the bad prep work. In the late 80s they switched to Glasurit, probably the very best product they have used in the company history but the application was so bad you could balance ball bearings in the pockets in the horrendous orange peel. Quality of application issues continue to this day. At the dealer we made jokes about it. Yugos had better paint. If you are picky about paint quality and bought a Ferrari you need your head examined.

    I’m not disagreeing.

My original point was if you have a detailing channel on YouTube you are going to get a hell of a lot more cpm’s posting a video showing bad paint on a Ferrari than you are on a Porsche.

Lol in a perfect world yes but then they’d just find something else to complain about for likes :D

Besides last I checked Ferrari isn’t having trouble selling cars, flaws and all ;)

And Alabama wasn’t having any trouble winning National championships…until they were.

Maybe Ferrari will get away with this bad behavior forever. But Luca brought them back from the grave once. Being revived twice is a big ask.

And finally, I laughed at the comment (not yours) earlier in this thread, stating that “smart” people buy Porsche and “passionate” people buy Ferrari. I guess that “passion” involves more staring than driving it as we see piles of for sale 5 year old Ferraris with 1,000 miles on them. “I’m a passionate car guy and that’s why I drove my Ferrari 200 miles a year”

Oh I mentioned the sticky buttons above!

My personal favorite is the ridiculously priced carbon fiber “options”

My experience is... The more expensive the paint... The more likey their are issues with it.

The more complicated the paint... The more issues.

I have seen clear coat flaking off on delivery. Runs... Dirt nibs... Dry spots... Missed areas. I mean overall just bad.

Rosso corsa and the standard range color seem to be significantly less problematic and the flaws that they occasionally come with are much much less significant... And in actuality... Insignificant.

But... You get a tailor made car and all bets are off.

You would think it would be the opposite.

I have been in the Ferrari business for 45 years and various versions of that statement were old then. People have been predicting the demise of the company because of their lack of caring and business practices since the 50's. This company for all its faults is vastly better, more customer oriented and has better QA than nearly its entire history. There was a period in the 80's when FNA was run buy a guy Joe Greco who had a very real desire to take great care of the American buyer. He did until they fired him.

As for Luca saving it, that displays your ignorance of history. Do you have any idea who Gianni Agnelli is? His bank account saved Enzos butt more times than you can count. Its how he wound up pretty much owning the company.

When Luca took over (appointed by Agnelli) in 1991, Ferrari had not won an F1 championship since 1979. The road cars were flat/trending down slightly, sales wise, to the point that Ferrari offered REBATES (in 1994 I think) on the 348 and 512.
    These are facts.
I would think a guy that has been in the "Ferrari business" for 45 years would know that...

As far as F1, who tanked it in 83 when the next win was 99? But I do not think QA on street cars has a lot to do with the racing success or lack of it. .
The economy was responsible for the sales issues in the early 90s and Ferrari was not alone by any means.

Additionally Luca took over the racing division in 74 or 75 so any failures to win championships in the period mentioned were under his directorship.
